So as of this moment it looks like BYU (if they're not stupid) will stay put in the MWC and the MWC will invite Houston, creating a 12 team conference and probably getting automatic qualifier status. This means the WAC would be down to just 6 teams (Hawaii, Utah St, Idaho, LaTech, NMSU, SJSU). If Houston jumps from C-USA to the MWC, I wouldn't be surprised to see LaTech go to C-USA. The WAC was never a sensible fit for them and having to travel as far East as Ruston and as far West as Hawaii is killer travel costs on a small conference every year.

I've read rumors about the WACs next move being to look at FCS schools within their footprint for possible expansion, schools like Texas State and Cal Davis. It got me wondering, why not NAU? If I was NAUs AD Id be on the phone to the WAC right away. I initially thought it wouldn't work because of D-1 stadium capacity requirements but I think those have been done away with as the Skydome is bigger than the Idaho Kibbie Dome by 230 seats and the Vandals are D-1. Plus if NAU did go D-1 Im sure they could get rid of the track at the Skydome and 'sink' the field to add a few thousand more seats, maybe bringing capacity up to about 20K.

Anyway, I haven't heard any rumors of this happening and I know its VERY unlikely, but dreamin' is free. It would be nice for ASU and UA though, they wouldn't have to rotate playing a FCS school every year but they'd still have a team that they should be able to beat on their schedule every year.

The wac is pretty much dead. I am glad to see the MWC moving to a better direction. Utah seems to be having issues finalizing there deal with the pac now also.

The WAC is pretty much dead. LaTech will probably go to Conf-USA and Hawaii would probably be wise to go Independent in football. That means the WAC is going to become the Sun Belt West, by inviting current FCS teams. If they start seriously looking at FCS schools, NAU ought to throw their name into the hat, thats my only real point.

NAU is not the small school many of us remember. The dome is great but doesn't have the capacity to get my alma mater into a bigger conference. Time for Dr. Walkup's last erection to be expanded.
