Basically he had 42 wins vacated from his record at UMASS and Memphis but last year UK had a huge 500 win celebration after his 500th, except per official NCAA records, he had only 458 at that point. The NCAA got miffed that they did the celebration they'd already told UK to stop using unofficial win/loss totals.

It's not a violation but it's unofficial and the NCAA wants them to change it.

Interesting, I've been complaining about that when they show his NCAA tourney record and number of final 4 appearances on tv, they never account for the vacated games, they act like it was never vacated.

It's like claiming to be a born again virgin. You just can't go back to the future, re-write history, and then pretend nothing happened.

The NCAA should just be impressed that folks from UK were able to count to 500.

UK actually had to issue a public apology as part of it which they apparently did today. they now have 467 wins IIRC.

Wonder if they'll throw another celebration if he hits 500 again, assuming he is there long enough.

the interesting thing is apparently San Diego State did the same thing when Steve Fisher got to 400 wins and the NCAA didn't say a thing. Fisher has over 70 wins vacated from the Michigan days, but the NCAA didn't complain at all about him.
