The Nebraska Cornhuskers made headlines on Wednesday evening after the team pulled off one of the rarest plays in baseball. The Huskers successfully completed the hidden ball trick in the third inning of their 11-4 victory over Pepperdine.
The hidden ball trick is a play in which a player deceives the opposing team about the ball's location in order to tag the runner out. The first known recorded hidden ball trick in Major League Baseball took place on September 24, 1901.
Washington Senators and Detroit Tigers third baseman Bill Coughlin (1899, 1901-1908) holds the distinction of being known as the master of the hidden ball trick. He is said to have successfully pulled it off seven times and at three different positions.
He also is responsible for the only hidden ball trick in World Series history. In Game 2 of the 1907 World Series, Caughlin caught Jimmy Slagle with the trick.
Nebraska fans took to social media to express their excitement over Wednesday night's play. Scroll down to see their reactions.
