The Huskers (20-8, 1-1) closed out their three-game series with Ohio State (20-6-1, 1-1) on Sunday afternoon. No. 21 Nebraska stumbled yet again, dropping a 12-6 defeat to the Buckeyes, losing the series two games to one.
Ohio State jumped out to a 9-3 lead by the third inning, once again handing the Huskers a deficit to overcome. Though Nebraska closed the gap to 9-5 in the top of the sixth, the Buckeyes put the game away in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to build their lead to seven.
Nebraska delivered 11 hits but couldn't capitalize on a majority of them, resulting in six runs and five RBIs. Ohio State's field shut down the Huskers, who only suffered four strikeouts, by forcing 18 putouts.
Ava Bredwell led Nebraska offensively, hitting 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and a sacrificial RBI. Bredwell's home run brought Nebraska's season total to 62, surpassing last year's total. Olivia DiNardo also struck a home run in the game before Bredwell's, with hers being a solo shot in the third.
Jordyn Bahl finished 1-for-4 but extended her hitting streak to 12 games. She also scored the Huskers' final run of the game after going home off a wild pitch in the seventh. Emmerson Cope delivered an RBI double off her lone at-bat. She also came in to pitch for 1.1 innings but allowed four earned runs.
Caitlin Olensky took over for Cope and threw 0.2 innings with one earned run. Hannah Camenzind pitched the final 3.0 innings for Nebraska, firing three strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Kylee Magee (2-2) started for the Huskers but allowed four earned runs.
Nebraska returns home for its next three-game series, welcoming in Minnesota this weekend. Game one is set for Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT on Big Ten Plus.
