Nebraska (20-6, 1-0) faced off against Ohio State (18-6-1, 0-1) in Columbus for the first of a three-game series to open up conference play on Friday night. The No. 21 Huskers, backed by three home runs and a suspenseful ninth inning, won the night 9-5.
After trailing 3-1 heading into the fourth, Nebraska scored eight consecutive runs to take a 9-3 lead across the final four innings. But Ohio State almost completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring twice and loading up the bases with no outs with the tying run in the batter's box.
The Huskers didn't cave in though, shutting down the Buckeyes to get the win, capping off a strong day. The team finished with 13 hits for nine RBIs while holding Ohio State to six hits for five RBIs.
Jordyn Bahl (11-3) pitched a complete game for Nebraska. She fired a season-high 12 strikeouts and allowed five runs and six walks to get the win. She also finished 2-for-4 at the plate, delivering two hits and a solo home run.
She along with Hannah Camenzind and Ava Bredwell each delivered a home run for the Huskers. Hannah Camenzind led Nebraska offensively, hitting 3-for-4 with four RBIs, which included a two-run home run in the fourth.
Bredwell finished 1-for-2 in the win with a solo home run and two walks. Lauren Camenzind drove in two RBIs for the Huskers after going 1-for-4 on the day, hitting a two-run double in the seventh to make it 9-3. Bella Bacon also brought a runner in, finishing a game with two hits and two runs.
Nebraska's second clash with Ohio State is set for Saturday morning. The first pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT on Big Ten Plus.
