Im rocking a 2001 Mac g3/800mHz iBook and its time to get a new machine. I have no marriage to Mac, its just whhat we bought at the time. I worked supporting Windows from the 3.11 days until I ended my computer career supporting Win 2000 servers for IBM. Funny, IM scared to go back to PC, but I really love the idea of saving a shload of money on HW. I dont remember anything about Windows. Except it seems to need a lot of upkeep. Ive never used UNIX save for a TINY bit of intro into Red Hat back in like 99 or something.

SOmeone help me with this conundrum. Do I stick with Mac, spend more now, but get a machine that will most likely last me another 5 to 6 years or save on the HW immediately and go with an OS I dont remember anything about? Ive never seen XP or Vista. Its been that long.

Pros and cons for both. And.....

GO!

My experience has been, if you have a MAC and liked it, even switched from a PC to it, then you may as well plan on staying with it. I have learned that MAC users and MAC supporters blindly back those products without ryhme or reason. It should solve any issues that you more than likely would have in trying to make the transition back to a Microsoft product.

And Vista, in my opinion, is not even worth the time, actually may even be another reason to stick with the "i" series.

The other option is to switch to Linux, like Red Hat or Ununtu or something, and not use Windows at all :)

And pay less for a computer that's not a Mac.

Small apt. Thinking I need something mobile so I can put it away, otherwise the iMac looked like a slam dunk. Im intrigued by the Linux stuff, but i think it would throw my wife for a loop, and might not jibe with some of her work software. Though it might be web based. Thats a whole new thing to learn though. I dont know that I have the time or desire. I need a PC to perform basic computing functions. Internet, music, eh a little video would be nice. Hold my photos, budget software, and office suite. Nothing more.

Does that change anything?

I bought an IMAC in may of '06, my first mac, and bought a macbook last October, now I am completely Windows free, although I have it on my IMAC and have another PC I built about 4 years ago next to it if I need it, but I only really have it for when friends are over because I don't want them touching my macs.

Go with a new IMAC, but wait for Leopard if you can, that's my two cents...
