Hello, this is Al Konrath and I am humbly reaching out to all my ASFN family and friends.

Five days ago my son, Dan, was brought to Morris Hospital with acute stomach and chest pain and vomiting. The quick diagnosis ruled out a heart attack and it was determined he was suffering from pancreatitis. He was admitted to the hospital and was told he would be there for two to three days. The following day he was brought to the ICU. Hours later he was put on oxygen due to a great amount of fluid in his lungs. Twelve hours later we were called to the hospital because he was being put on a ventilator and into an induced coma. The next day he was transported to Loyola Hospital in Maywood. They put in a feeding tube and diagnosed a badly damaged left lung from the pancreatitis. As of Monday night he has a temperature of 102.8 My son is fighting for his life.

Dan is 40 years old. He is a great husband and a proud father of five children between the ages of 4 and 12. He is self-employed therefore, has no disability benefits or social security, leaving them with zero income. Doctors have told us if he survives he could be in the hospital for months, which will mean he will not have any income for all that time. We have had an outpouring of prayers and offers to help and I am, and will forever be, grateful for that. I am reaching out for help.

I have set up a Daniel Konrath Benefit Fund thru GoFundMe.com. The link is

"http://www.gofundme.com/vvdb3a2a2" I understand if you are unable to donate, but if you can't.PLEASE PRAY FOR US.

Hey Al, your family is in my prayers. My son who is only 21 was also recently hospitalized with pancreatitis the Saturday during Memorial Day weekend, 2 ER visits, and then admitted for several days. He is home now but not good yet, and they are still trying to figure out what is causing it. Anyway, sounds like your son is going through much much more and I hope and pray he pulls through. Hang in there, I know it really hurts seeing one of your kids suffer.

Guys are scaring me. I've had all sorts of issues with my gastrointestinal tract and almost everything I've seen points back to acute pancreaitis .. Only 31 going on 32 ...

Prayers to your families.

Thanks everyone. Most people go thru 4 to 5 days of recovery. Less than 5% of people get it as bad as my son has it. I just want to hear the words, " Your son is going to live."

I, (We) will get thru what they say could be months of rehab.

Bless you guys. I will try to post daily on his condition.

So sorry to hear. You are exactly right, my good friend just had a bout with pancreatitis and it was 4-5 days of misery but then a full recovery.

Really hope everything turns out well.

Al, not sure if you know this but since he was self-employed he would have paid into SS as it's required by law so he may be able to get something out of SS. You should look into it.

Thanks card pa. Every resource possible is being looked into. We were told about SS but that could take months to acquire. Not much change today but no set backs. So many have donated and I thank you for that. I don't know if I will ever get the chance to thank each one of you personally , but I will try.

Tuesday Night. I just got home from the hospital and needed to take a second to thank all of AFSN again. I'm thanking everyone personally on my facebook page ( Alan Konrath).

Dan has taken a cople of baby steps in the right direction. They took him off what I call the "refridgeration machine" which is used to cool him down. He had been off it and his temp went back up to 102...but that's better than 103.5. Doctors are searching for the reason for the temp. When they find the cause it will be a HUGE step forward. He is still under sedation and life support. His lung x-rays are a little better.
The good news is his vitals are stable as are all organs.

I can't imagine watching a Cardinal game without him. Please Dear Jesus, let him live.
