Rackers atoned for his miss...the pooch was perfect and the game clincher FG too.

I hate, hate, hate him on field goals, but I wouldn't want another kicker in the league when it comes to kickoffs, especially on a pooch or on-sides.

His touchbacks were bigtime today too.

To the apologists: Baloney. YOU CANNOT MISS THAT KICK. A kicker has to be absolutely, positively, without a doubt perfect inside of 40 yards. Otherwise, you don't have a good kicker you can trust. Touchbacks are great, and he's really good at them. The popup kick is nothing at all special. Now, once we do sign a new kicker this week (and we will) I'd be in favor of keeping Rackers for kickoffs.

Maybe that is why we only have a 52 man roster right now???

I agree with that...

They replayed the miss on Fox and it was a bad snap to the holder who pulled in too close. The announcers totally put it on the long snapper so Hodel.

When is it EVER going to be Rackers fault  ? Kickers make FG's all the time on bad snaps/holds. If everything has to be perfect everytime, there's no wonder he's a 70% kicker. Shows what a head case he is. To me, the feeling of having a good kicker is when you,us fans, think the guy is going to make it and are surprised when he misses. I don't know about everyone else, but i'm now more surprised when he makes it. I think i saw stats on 2 kickers yesterday that they were both perfect in 40 yards last year in Nedney and Akers. I'm willing to be that there may have been a bad snap or hold sometime in there.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's just a matter of time before this guy costs us a game or two or three. It's coming guys. I'm not about to judge a kicker based on his touchbacks, pooch kicks, or onside kicks. His success & the success of this team hinges on his ability to make EVERY kick inside 40-45 yds, especially at critical times in a game. With the parity in the NFL, the kicker is CRITICAL. Heartache is right around the corner!!!!

A tiger is a tiger & Rackers is Rackers. He's never been clutch & he never will.

You are absolutly correct. All these apologist that are saying he was good enough, is a JOKE. What would they be saying if we lost a point or two?

This stuff about a high snap, and a bad hold, is a joke and I hope everybody is saying that sarcasticly. Because I watched it over and over last night, just to be ready for this thread. All I have to say to that is NR get paid to make kicks and very nicely I might add. Every other kicker in the league can make the kicks he misses. A professional makes the tough ones look easy.

I was screaming at Neil at the time, too. Normally, I haven't jumped on the anti-Neil bandwagon, either. However, I did go back and re-watch that snap and hold and it was terrible. He got it down very late and not in the right spot.

Considering Neil kicked off like a champ today and hit 3 other FG's I'll let it pass... if we'd lose that game by 3 or less though, I'd be livid right now, so who knows.

I was pleasantly surprised by our punter today after how bad he looked all pre-season

That kick was hardly in clutch-time.

You're right, and thats starting to scare me too. The guy used to make everything when there was no pressure, now he's starting to miss the gimme's. I for one am worried that he will cost us a game or two and that could be all the difference in a winning season and a losing one.

Agreed. But I doubt he's going anywhere this year.

I hope we draft a kicker in the middle rounds next year. I wish we'd spent a pick on Mason Crosby a couple of years back.

I agree, it's probably too late to start shopping now. If he continues down this path though, coach won't have a choice. I just wish there had been some competition in camp, so he didn't get too comfortable.

At this rate, I would rather have someone who can hit 20-45 yard FGs with regularity than someone with the potential to hit a 55+ yarder and boom touchbacks. Even though it was very windy yesterday (15-25 mph) he still should have hit that 35 yarder.
