Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been having the best season of his career as he is trying to help the Nets win as many games as possible. While Johnson has been focused on helping Brooklyn as much as he can, he has also made the rounds on various podcasts to lend his voice on certain matters, including his opinion on the beef happening between Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith.
"On one hand, our league is entertainment. We know that. It is reality TV to some extent, in real time, with real things at stake. Side stories, it takes away from the actual headlines," Johnson said on an episode of "The Young Man and The Three" podcast. Johnson has made various appearances on the podcast that is ran by Tommy Alter and this is not his first time on the podcast to discuss something that has gone viral in NBA circles.
What Johnson was addressing was the back-and-forth between James and Smith that has been going on for the past few weeks after James addressed Smith at a Lakers game that Smith attended. According to Smith, James confronted him about his criticism regarding his son, Lakers guard Bronny James, in a way that made James believe that what Smith had to say about his son was personal.
James recently made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show where he appeared to make fun of Smith by saying that he was going on a "Taylor Swift tour run" following their initial encounter with how often Smith has talked about it while giving his thoughts. Smith gave his most recent response on his podcast "The Stephen A. Smith Show" where he implied that James continued to lie about the situation.
Either way, most of the people around the NBA feel the way that Johnson does, implying that most would rather for ESPN and other major media outlets to focus on the stories directly related to the NBA. Johnson seems like one of the players in the NBA that is able to give his takes on NBA topics while remaining nuanced in his opinions, something that is refreshing to see.
