Hopefully someone can help me with something that I am sure is pretty simple...

My Network here at work consists of about 30 odd computers... really basic set up with a small twist... A fairly large amount of peer to peer file sharing between different levels of employment, some departmental...

  1. DSL Router - Netopia
  2. Netgear VPN router IP Assigned
  3. 4 cat5 out to misc hubs in various locations...
  4. All 30 comps are assigned the same workgroup, lets say "ABC"
I have three comps in my office, I hooked up a Linksys router on my old endpoint, gave it my main computer's old ip and now everything works fine, wireless in my office and all ports out of router as far as internet goes...

How do I make it so that my main computer is still visible on the LAN as it was before... I attempted enabling DMZ host with the new assigned number on my main pc, but it still does not have me active in the LAN workgroup...

I know this has to be easy, what am I missing...

I know I could sub a hub and or wireless access point instead of the router and everything would work as it should but I have like 6 routers not being used and no available hubs or simple switches...

I really thought you could just make it so as the desired computer would appear as normal on the network through a router....

NetBIOS is non-routable.

You could probably get to the other network shares but I am not sure if anyone could see yours. You may also give it a little time. That protocol takes a little while to update sometimes.

You could also just not use the WAN port and plug them all into the hub side. If you try that just make sure you turn off DHCP.

The danger here is too many hubs. Too many hub to hub to hub setups can cause network problems.

Don't you mean NetBEUI

Yes, NetBIOS is the underlying protocol for NetBEUI.

I guess in this case NetBEUI would be more appropiate.

EDIT: NetBEUI=NetBIOS Extended User Interface. :)

NetBIOS is used in Ethernet and Token Ring networks and, included as part of NetBIOS Extended User Interface (NetBEUI), in recent Microsoft Windows operating systems.......

NetBIOS provides the session and transport services described in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. However, it does not provide a standard frame or data format for transmission. A standard frame format is provided by NetBEUI.
