before i kill someone (probably bill gates), can anyone help me with this problem?
we just hired a new employee. just a few months ago, he had bought himself a new laptop. instead of us buying him a separate work computer, he's going to use the laptop both places. the laptop, however, has xp home, not pro. this has proved to be a huge bitch when i've tried to set up his laptop to the network.
basically, here's the random facts about what i've done thus far. let me know if there is something glaringly obvious that i'm missing:
anyone who can solve this problem for me gets $5. i'm serious about that, btw. i will mail you $5 if you help me.

basically, here's the random facts about what i've done thus far. let me know if there is something glaringly obvious that i'm missing:
- the workgroup name is the same as the other networked computers
- the firewall is disabled
- the computer connects to the internet through the LAN, and is assigned an IP address
- from the laptop, i can ping my computer, but when i try to ping my computer name, it doesn't work
- from my computer, i cannot ping the laptop (although pinging other computers and their names worked; i checked)
- all computers are using the same file and printer sharing protocol (TCP/IP)
- any additional protocols have been un-bound on all computers
- when prompted, i sacrificed a small puppy to the microsoft gods
