Rumor has it McGinnis as HC, Chow as OC, and Larry Marmie as DC. Wow. Surreal. But, I absolutely love it.

If true...

... somewhere, #42 is smiling.

That's good enough for me.

As of now, I'm chalking it up as a rumor. This would be the "big time hire" Lisa Love supposedly has in the works. I thought it may have been Petrino but a McGinnis/Chow/Marmie hiring would be the hire of a lifetime. Still gonna hold my breath. Exciting times as a Devil fan!

Hopefully those over at DD aren't trying to pull some sort of sick scam. If this is true, money is coming straight out of my bank account for season tickets tomorrow. I know Jurecki reported this as being a possible hire way back after the Oregon debacle. It could have been in the works for some time.

It makes sense and explains all too well why the Sun Devils wasted no time in firing Koetter. Hell, the paint on the victory over U of A wasn't even dry yet before they pulled the plug on Dirk mercifully.

I'm also bringing this up because noone else has yet, but it's gonna be pretty interesting seeing Marmie here again, especially back in the coordinator role.

Hey, why go for one big hire when you can get three? Chow is easily one of the best offensive coordinators of the past decade (when it comes to college football), Marmie's defensive mind cannot be denied and McGinnis, I feel, has the perfect personality to recruit. Really, I can see him having the same push here that Pete Carroll did on USC's success. He's already surrounded with two very good coaches, so all should be up to him to succeed.

If this is true, it's good to see Mac back in the Valley.. Should have never left.

In the end, I'm surprised Chow's not hanging on for a Head Coaching job.. I really am. But hey, no complaints to see him as Coordinator here! :)

In the end, I'm not going to hold my breath that this is a done deal, not until the word becomes official. Remember, Devil's Digest DID report that Rick Majerus took the men's basketball job too.

this could all end up being a rumor blasted out of proportion:mad: :bang: :(

No coaching announcement planned Tuesday
11/27/2006 11:19:52

The new Arizona State football coach will not be announced on Tuesday, an athletic department official said Monday night. "We're not close to naming a coach," the official said.

Internet recruiting sites are heralding the imminent hiring of Tennessee Titans assistant head coach Dave McGinnis and Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow as ASU head coach and offensive coordinator. The latest addition to that rumor, fueled by ASU boosters believed to be in the know, is that former ASU head coach Larry Marmie, Seattle Seahawks defensive assistant, will reunite with McGinnis as defensive coordinator.

McGinnis was head coach of the Cardinals from 2000-03 with Marmime as his defensive coordinator. Chow last worked in college at USC when ASU Athletic Director Lisa Love was a Trojan senior associate AD.

Marmie was 22-21-1 as ASU head coach from 1988-91. He was defensive coordinator from 1985-87 when the Sun Devils went to three consecutive bowl games and won the 1987 Rose Bowl.

Danny More, McGinnis' agent, said Monday afternoon that McGinnis and Chow are "not a package deal" and that McGinnis had not been contacted by ASU. "If they want Dave McGinnis, they know where to find Dave McGinnis.

"I think he's the best choice. Arizona State needs an injection of personality. I believe if Lisa Love and Dave McGinnis get together in a room to talk, Dave McGinnis becomes head coach."

One of the main reasons why I'm holding my breath. It was somewhat of a bad ending with Marmie and ASU so I'm wondering why he would come back

Where there's smoke there's fire. LL is def going to make a "big time hire." Whether that happens tommorrow or in a couple weeks it doesn't matter to me.

Devils Digest reported this and ironically they have a 2 week free trial that ends soon. Probably a load of ****. It may be true but I find it hard to believe that an announcement will be made tomorrow

Yep.. The irony's not lost that this is smoke and mirrors to get people to sign up for their message board.

Who in this staff is going to recruit? They're going to need the cutthroat, ruthless recruiter to stay up with the rest of the Pac even with Dave Mac's heartbeat rhetoric.

And I'd rather have Bill Miller than Larry Marmie.

I totally agree about Miller. I also somewhat agree with the recruiting side. I also hope that they keep Wrenn.

Ah, recruiting doesn't matter. You've got "charismatic" McGinnis. He needs to sell this stinker to the fans.

Well never again be what we were when Kush ran things, but here is what I expect from ASU: (in 5 years)

1 conference title or at large BCS berth
2 Holiday Bowls
1 Sun Bowl
1 low tier bowl like the Emerald

I think I might still be overestimating the college, PHX market....but not as bad as my fellow Alums.

This is a bad hire. You don't need to sell the program if you win.

The Norm Chow rumor does not even seem reasonable. Why would a OC leave the pros for a college team? Couldn't be for better money. The other two seem pausable given their connections with the valley.

The coaching regime in Tennessee is in trouble so he may be looking for a job. More likely he would look for a college head coaching job though.

Excellent COLLEGE coaches too!

Also happy that Norm Chow won't be anywhere near the Cardinals coaching staff next year

Chow is rumored to be the favorite for the Utah job.
