I am curious. What is the real problem with it? Why can't an incentive be tied to where a team finishes if player/team agrees to it?

EDIT: I need to state I understand is a violation of a rule but I don't understand why there is a rule like that in the first place.

It's no big deal... Simple matter of having lawyer reword to retain the spirit of the contract, but posed in language that satisfies MLB lawyers....

"...and should the Curse of the Bambino, hereinafter referred to as "The Curse," end, terminate, cease to exist, or in any way be resolved at any time in the next three years, and having satisfactorily met all other aspects and conditions of this contract up to and including the date of termination of The Curse, Curtis Schilling will receive a $2 Million bonus, and a statue ("bronze or stone representation") of his person in Red Sox attire shall be placed on Boston Common at the expense of the Red Sox organization, and his family residence will be added to the Freedom Trail."

LMAO

I'll gladly revisit Boston for the reworking of the Freedom Trail--that addition alone is better an Paul Revere's gravestone!
