I'm surprised there isn't a thread on this yet. It's by far the wife's and my favorite new comedy of the year. It stars Zoey Deschanel and while it may not be for everyone, we laugh hard every episode (and no cheesy canned laughter).

If you haven't seen it, you're missing out.

I agree, I love the show too. Some of it is just silly but most of the time it's hilariously innocent and the comedy is driven by the characters actually being funny not just the delivery of predictable one-liners.

In the epsisode when CC slept over and Schmidt convinced her to let him sleep with her (just sleep no funny business) they had this tender moment where she fell asleep holding his hand and you thought it was over, but then ofcouse Schmidt called his friend and is whisper-yelling; "Dude I'm totally holding her hand right now I'm in the bed! I totally closed!" Wow that was fall off the couch laughing funny.

Stout, you keep saying she speaks in monotone, but I think you might be the only one who hears her that way. :)

I like Dashanel, but I couldn't make it past a couple of episodes of this show. I thought it was really bad.

my wife has this on the DVR - I find it painful, the one dude annoys me in pretty much anything he's ever done and I really can't stand zoey in this

I just watched it for the first time.
Maybe I am just deaf, dumb, and blind but this show is horrible!

I watched one episode and regretted I wasn't deaf, dumb and blind for that half hour. I like Zooey but I'm obviously not the target audience for this show.

Well, in every show or movie I've seen her in, her volume and tone are constantly the same, and she has had the emotional range of a kumquat.

Ever watch the sci-fi miniseries Tin Man? Fantastic story with some great acting. The effects aren't great, but the budget wasn't huge either. Her performance as Dorothy reminds me exactly of Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It was a great movie in spite of the lead. She was GOD-AWFUL, but the rest of the cast and the story makes it great.

That's it! She's the female acting equivalent of Kevin Costner whenever he isn't in a sports movie or a western!

Well, I guess my wife and I are in the minority but tonight's episode was hilarious. The sex scene had us in tears.

This is what I have discovered about this show. If you love Zooey, you will love the show. If you hate Zooey, you will hate the show. If you are indifferent about Zooey, you will be indifferent about the show.

I don't like ZD. But I DVR'd this for my wife. We watched half of the the 1st episode. She looked at me and said "When does the 2nd season of Game of Thrones start?" and deleted the season pass.

Horrible.

Keep watching... It's worth it.
Good to hear you liked it. I'll give it a chance. After watching Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Big Bang, How I Met Your Mother, and That 70s Show, this one seems like a let down.

Historically, we seem to have pretty similar tastes, so I strongly suspect that if you give it a chance, you'll get into it. Let me know how it goes for you.

As much as I liked it, the very last episode was a ******, being very much of a let down similar to Seinfeld's last episode.

Funny you mention Seinfeld. When my wife and I were young I would get home from working at Chili's around 10:15pm and I would shower real quick and jump in bed in time for watching Seinfeld at 10:35. That was our ritual. We must have seen every episode via reruns.

A few months ago I started recording all the episodes via youtubetv in case I want to run thru them.

Can't stand Zooey "I'm a monotone person who can't act" D, so I never tried this show. Hearing that folks who like her work didn't universally like it either makes me think I made the right call.

Start watching in Season 2. Season 1 is rough. But I thought it was great and only gets better as the show goes longer. If you start in S2, All you need to know is there’s sexual tension between Nick and Jess and Schmidt loves CC.

Yup it had a rough start but eventually the actors really settle into their ridiculous roles and it’s fun. Eventually I felt it has run its course and I don’t know where I stopped watching but it was at least a few seasons in

When I have free time I still watch Seinfeld. It comes on at 9 p.m.

It never gets old for me and always puts me in a good frame of mind. Those episodes are impeccably layered and timed to be funny.

you shoulda stuck through it. It only got more ridiculous, especially once the writers figured out how to finally unleash Winston into the weirdest of them all.

New Girl and Community reruns got me through a tough Pandemic stretch where our family was dealing with some serious health scares. Perfect thirty minute tonic for a case of the Covid blues, IMO.
