per Gambo and Ash

with Boston...

Stoudemire, Barbosa and 14th pick to C's for R. Allen, and R. Rondo

with Washington...

Stoudemire to Wiz for Jamison, M. James' expiring deal, and WSH's 5th pick in 2009 draft

thoughts?

The Boston-Phoenix deal makes no sense for either side.

Not sure why Washington would do that. Give up a lottery pick and a good player for a injury-prone one year rental?

The Washington rumor has been around a while, and I'm pretty sure that if it was on the table for real it would be agreed to already.

I would take the Washington deal but not the Boston deal.

The Boston trade is ********...Barbosa is a rising star, and a freak talent, while Rondo is just a good rebounding guard, not much else. Ray Allen's career is almost over, and Stoudemire is still super young, whose only going to get better. Boston would get way more value than the suns would.

The Washington deal makes a little more sense, certainly a lot more value than the Boston trade. Jamison is good, but he's in his 30's, so PHX would be getting a declining player, the only upside to that trade would be the 5th pick in the draft.

Nonetheless, Steve Kerr's an absolute moron, so i wouldn't be surprised if he traded Stoudemire, Nash, and Shaq for a bunch of role players.

Both are nightmare trades for Suns. Jamison is a SF version of Randolph and is only good for DAntoni or GS run and gun.

I'd rather have Amare walk than taking on Jamison's deal.

$11,641,095 09
$13,358,905 10
$15,076,715 11

Are the remaining salaries for Jamison. Similar deal to Richardson even though he's a little older. He has no history of major injuries though and averaged a career high in points last year. I just don't see the downside here. He expires when you need to extend whoever we take at #5 which would probably be Hill or Harden.

Nash / Dragic
Richardson / Barbosa
#14 James Johnson / Dudley
Jamison / #5 Jordan Hill
Shaq / Fropez

We could also possibly still do a Shaq or Richardson trade for more assets & youth.

I think if PHX trades for Rondo, they will waive Nash, and by the 2010 off-season, they'll have a heck of a lot of cap room that they might do something with...

but I agree with most of you guys, I don't really get it too....

I like the Boston deal. Rondo is a stud... and Allen's deal expires in '10 at $18 Million.

Q: In the summer 2010, would you want to spend 13m of you cap room for a player like Jamison and JRich, not to mention 24mil for the two of them, or would you want to sign some other FA with it, or even no FA rather than paying them 13m?

I rest my case if you preferr Jamison at 13m to having the cap room then.:mulli:

I'm not sure how you connect the contracts of Jamison and JRich except for saying they both have large contracts. Amare has a large contract as well.

I think Jamison is an adequate replacement for Amare right now especially because I don't think the Suns will extend him. However, the key (IMO), is can the Suns strengthen themselves considerably in the draft at #5 and #14. The money issue is well taken but again, the Suns can still seek other trades and Shaq will be an expiring contract.

The downside to me is the Suns recent history of ineptitude in the draft.

Good lord. Barbosa's a role player coming off the bench for a lottery team, Rajon Rondo is the starting PG and third (or second if you look at this year's in the playoffs) best player on one of the four best teams in the NBA. Rondo is over three years younger, is just as much of a threat offensively (offense is more than simply shooting the ball unless your name is Mike D'Antoni), and is already the best defensive PG in the NBA. Barbosa the "freak talent" and "rising star" whose 27 years old and comes off the bench and has never made any All-NBA team. Classic.

Ray Allen's career is almost over, and Stoudemire is still super young, whose only going to get better. Boston would get way more value than the suns would.
I'd be willing to guess that Ray Allen has three or four more productive years in the NBA and has a similar career as Reggie Miller. Can anyone really say Amare has three or four more good years left considering his injury history and the fact that his game as of now essentially sucks without athleticism (which he'll lose around the same time that Allen calls it quits)?

The Washington deal makes a little more sense, certainly a lot more value than the Boston trade. Jamison is good, but he's in his 30's, so PHX would be getting a declining player, the only upside to that trade would be the 5th pick in the draft.
So a guy with glass knees and an eye that's one freak thumb away from retirement is more reliable than a guy in his 30's whose almost never injured and whose perimeter game creates career longevity? And let's not forget that Jamison would be a perfect fit for the Suns offense. Think Tim Thomas in 2006 with talent, heart, and a willingness to grab a rebound or two.

The Suns would love another lottery pick, I'm sure they'd hop on this deal in a nanosecond especially if Harden is on the board.

Nonetheless, Steve Kerr's an absolute moron, so i wouldn't be surprised if he traded Stoudemire, Nash, and Shaq for a bunch of role players.
Now you're just making stuff up. Actually you've been doing that this whole thread.

The rondo deal makes the most sense. I’m not a fan of building the team around a point guard but Rondo would be a hell of a start. He is a young stud that would help attract additional talent and it would make Nash expendable. Maybe trade Nash for a serviceable PF and a pick or two.
Rondo, Shaq, and Allen would be a deadly trio that fits together much better than Amare, Nash, and Shaq. I do think that including Barbosa and the 14 is a bit too much. One or the other would make it a no brainer for me.
Then you have Shaq and Allen’s contract expiring at the same time, that’s 40 mil bucks. You could trade one or both during the season if an opportunity arises.
After next season you have Rondo, Richardson, maybe Hill and a discounted Allen, say 6-8 mil per season. Add a decent draft pick or two from the Nash deal a max FA and a second tier FA and we’re ready for a new era.
This current team is a mess. It’s old, broken and the pieces don’t fit despite the individual talent. We need new young talent and flexibility starting NOW, not after another season.

You basically took everything i said out of context, good job. Did you ever take into consideration that Barbosa is only on the bench because he has Nash in front of him, one of the best PG's in the game? Nooo, couldn't be.

I like how you referred to the suns as a lottery team, as if thats what their accustomed to...exxaggerate much?

Rondo is good, don't get me wrong, but not worth trading Stoudemire. I hope you know as well, the year after Amare had knee surgery, he made ALL NBA First Team, in case you failed to realize that. How's that for sucking? I guess i made that one up too?

I'm not sure if you realize this, but i never approved of the Washington trade, i just said it made 'more sense', only because Allen and Rondo are small players, which would make us an extremely small team. Also, as i stated before, Washington has the 5th pick in the draft, which i said is the only upside to the trade.

Only a fool would approve of the job Steve Kerr has done since his tenure as GM. Pretty soon, he'll most likely be regarded as one of the worst GM's in suns history, and i guess i'll be making that one up too?

Please stay away from high ledges.

You work for the Celtics now. Tell them we want Garnett ... or the fat lady gets it.

I think the Washington trade gives us the best chance to rebuild the team with young players in the shortest amount of time.

We would have the opportunity to draft 2 young players at #5 and #14 while still maintaining a solid core of veterans and after this season have a lot of cap flexibility.
Although I really, really like Rondo, I don't think he is the kind of player you can build a team around. That deal would also really hamper our ability to add other pieces via the draft for this coming season (and we don't have a pick the next year).

Something like 90% of all big name free agents resign with their team. There have been very very few exceptions of players switching teams. (Boozer, Shaq, Nash - who gave Cuban the right to match.)

Who exactly is going to come here when we have a 35 year old point guard, Barbosa, Richardson, and oft-injured Amare?

Considering I quoted you, how exactly did I take you out of context? You said Barbosa is a freak athlete and a rising star. Exactly nobody in the NBa agrees with that. And Barbs is coming off the bench because he's too small to be a regular SG and his PG skills suck. He's a one-dimensional instant offense sparkplug. A good player but a role player nonetheless on any championship team.

I like how you referred to the suns as a lottery team, as if thats what their accustomed to...exxaggerate much?
Well, they were in the lottery this year. And will be there next year and the year after so what exactly does that make them?

Where did I say that Amare sucked? Talk about taking things out of context.

Only a fool would approve of the job Steve Kerr has done since his tenure as GM. Pretty soon, he'll most likely be regarded as one of the worst GM's in suns history, and i guess i'll be making that one up too?
Well, most people would realize that the most extensive damage was done to this franchise (selling Rondo, screwing up the JJ extension, selling Igoudala/Deng pick) before Kerr was named GM. Kerr sucks, but D'Antoni and Griffin and mostly Sarver deserve just as much blame.

A 35 year olde PG on the 2010 would be your choice of FA then. Amare is not often injured like Penny or Googs. The eye injury is a freak one. And he will opt out 2010 any way. However, even in your scenario, I'd never pay 13mil to have the privelege of Jamison's no-defense game, not to mention to replace Amare. What'd be the team of your suggestion heading? At most one and done. I'd take the risk of Amare myself in that case. It's a no brainer, based on hard evidence (as elindolm would tell you).:D

So I guess you know exactly what every GM/Coach/Owner is thinking then? How do you know Barbosa wouldn't be a contributing starter on other teams? Are you a psychic? He's better than Derek Fisher and Rafer Alston, the two starting PG's for the Lakers and Magic, who are, mind you, playing for the championship...

Once Again, can you see in the future? How do you know the suns will be a lottery team "next year and the year after"? Now you're the one just 'making things up'...You're obviously extremely pessimistic, sorry to hear that.

Here's a direct quote from you, just so you can backtrack and realize what you said..."his game as of now essentially sucks without athleticism", yes, he sucks so much without athleticism that he averaged over 25 points and 9 rebounds a game 'after' his surgery, damn, too bad he sucks huh? I wonder how many other players averaged those numbers during that time, probably only 2 or 3...

Sarver is an idiot, and should've never gotten involved in personnel changes. Regardless, Kerr is the one who hired Porter, which turned out to be a catastrophic mistake. In turn, because of Porter and Kerr, we got rid of our back up PF in Diaw, who has been putting up decent numbers in charlotte, and we also got rid of our best perimeter defender in Raja Bell for someone who couldn't defend a 5 year old(jk). Kerr preaches defense, then he does the exact opposite and trades our best defender for an offensive weapon, absolutely baffling...
