Since NFL free agency began last Wednesday afternoon, it didn't seem as if the New York Giants had made much of a dent in the marketplace.

Fans and pundits have criticized general manager Joe Schoen's performance thus far as he has yet to add a veteran quarterback and an upgrade along the interior offensive line.

Schoen may not have made the big splash fans have hoped for just yet, but he has been busy. Over the Cap notes that the Giants have spent $193.5 million so far this offseason, the third most in the NFL behind Minnesota ($245.4 million) and New England ($238.5 million).

Schoen has re-signed many of his own free agents to new deals since the end of this year's Super Bowl: long snapper Casey Kreiter, tight end Chris Manhertz, quarterback Tommy DeVito, punter Jamie Gillan, wide receiver Darius Slayton, kick returner Ihmir Smith-Marsette, linebacker Tomon Fox, and offensive linemen Greg Van Roten and Aaron Stinnie.

Schoen brought in several new faces via free agency to bolster the roster and fill some voids beginning with the signings of cornerback Paulson Adebo, defensive tackle Ray Roberson-Harris, inside linebacker Chris Board, and swing tackle James Hudson III.

The fourth-year general manager didn't stop there. He has gone on to ink defensive end Chauncey Golston, safety Jevon Holland, tackle Shane Forsythe, linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, and defensive lineman Jeremiah Ledbetter.

Schoen is not done by any stretch. He has not made any public statements since free agency began, playing things close to the vest.

Per OTC, the Giants still have $27.7 million in effective cap space to operate with, but that may not include all of their recent signings. If they are to sign a veteran quarterback, they will need to have cushion to sign them, as well as leave room for the incoming draft class.
