The sad thing is that the only one of those five that anyone would say is worth the max is Steph.

And there were alot of people on this board who did not believe Steph was worth the max even before we had any inkling that he would be traded.

Isiah Thomas redeeming grace is that the NYK can afford to piss away money.

According to HoopsHype, the Knicks are at $91.7 million this year and will only drop to $90.4 million next year. Counting luxury tax...

Their willingness to take on that much added salary shows how much they value Marbury. It had better work out soon, because they have dug a hole that is impposble to get out of.

The Phoenix Suns took advantage of the New York Knicks willingness to spend money a few years ago when they were able to dump Luc Longley's contract on them while picking up a first-round draft pick. This was even bigger. This was much bigger. No matter how much you like Stephon Marbury I don't think you can possibly argue that he will be worth anywhere near the $18 million + he will be making it a couple years.

You are mistaken. I believe he signed for almost the entire mid-level exception. The Knicks did use a little bit of it to sign Lampe.
