The New York Islanders are one step closer to getting their forever home. On Thursday, Newsday reported that the six members of New York's Empire State Development Board (ESD) voted unanimously in favor of a $1.3 billion development proposal for 43 acres of vacant state-owned property just behind the Belmont Park racetrack. The development group, New York Arena Partners, is a partnership of the Islanders and the New York Mets along with the Oak View Group, a sports and live entertainment company that is also overseeing the extensive renovation of Seattle's downtown arena in preparation for the arrival of that city's NHL expansion team in the fall of 2021.
