If the divisions are going to stay balanced, with the next team in being the start of 5 per division, there will end up being 40 teams in the NFL. It probably will happen by the year 2100. That being said, where will those next 8 teams be located? Assume that current cities will still have teams, either their current ones or another to replace them. Keep this poll going until 2100 and let your kids and grandkids see who got the closest to naming the 8 new teams.

San Antonio/Austin Tex
Nashville Tennessee
Salt Lake City, Ut
London, Eng
Hamburg/Berlin, Ger
Frankfort, Ger
Barcelona, Sp
Montreal, Can

Cool idea for a thread! And I live in Utah, so I'm all for a team in SLC (even though I'm a Cards lifer), but there is that LDS Church thing about Sundays that makes me think that NFL games would never fly here....

Montreal? They couldn't even support the Expos let alone an NFL franchise. Also, the CFL would never have it.

Nashville... I wonder what the Titans think of that one, and Mexico City would be a more obvious consideration if one believes they will be able to get away with that pipedream of having an NFL team overseas

Agreed. An NFL club in Montreal or Toronto would seriously threaten the existence of the CFL (which I hope never goes away since IMHO it's a fun, chill version of pro football).

The Cards sure had an enormous crowd for their "home" game there v. the 49ers back in 2005.

It's also been around longer than the NFL.

Doubt that a NFL team in Montreal would have any kind of negative impact on the CFL.

Mexico easily gets a team.

St. Louis gets a team.

San Diego Oakland LA, one team needed for this game of musical chairs.

Salt Lake City.

San Antonio.

Portland Oregon.

Somewhere in the deep south, Alabama or Louisiana.

NFL Europe needs to be resurrected or transatlantic flight needs to become vastly quicker.

You do realize New Orleans is in Louisiana, right? And there are teams in the deep south. Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans, all have teams. Birmingham, Little Rock, Jackson, don't have the TV market to support professional teams. I remember the Stallions got decent support but that's it. Tennessee is growing with an NFL, NBA, and NHL team, all 3 are popular.

Pottsville would surely get a team. I hope they are in the AFC so the Cards could play them in the Super Bowl and settle the matter once and for all.

A team for St. Louis. Despite what Kroenke said this city will support an expansion team.

Albourque New Mexico.

Mexico City

Salt Lake City

Anything in the south is going to have to deal with the Saints and Falcons

There's a team coming to England I can feel it.

Not a single NFL I have spoken to would change their colours though. So for it to work it needs to be here for 20 years for new fans and a new generation of fans to get behind them. Not saying I wouldnt go to the odd game in my Cards jersey, but it would need time.....would the NFL give it that long...not a chance!

Rams sold out for years in St Louis. I doubt Kroenke's little rant against the city was taken seriously by many that really matter. They will support a home grown expansion team but I doubt they entertain any wondering eye franchises. I really like Portland as a spot too. I think Vegas might be too "busy" to worry about the NFL. I have spent enough time in Vegas to know that if the Sands decides to build the Raiders a stadium, it will probably make Inglewood look cheap. Anyone who does not believe that has not walked down the strip. lol Great thread for thought. Thanks for posting.

For one thing, travel and distance will be no problem in 60-80 yrs. Flight time will probably 1 hour anywhere on the planet. That being said, by 2100 there could easily be divisions in all continents, with the playoffs being the best team from different parts of the world, the US, Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Asia, Central, and South America. I could see 4 or 5 teams in several of these areas outside the U.S. with our normal playoffs similar to now, and then the Super Bowl Champ playing the winner of the other areas playing in the World Bowl. For instance, like this year the winner of Denver/Carolina might have 1 more game with the winner of maybe Sidney and London. A lot of things will happen in 75 years, just like things have changed and grown in the last 75 years. Some of your kids may be around to see it, like I and some of you have seen things change from when our parents were born in early 1910-15.

You're probably looking at 20 years instead of 85. A hundred years from now we'll all be cyborgs anyway. Plugging the interwebs directly into our brains (you know, for convenience). And doing our masters' biddings much more efficiently.

As for the comment about the deep south, NJ was right. Having teams in New Orleans, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, and Charlotte does have it covered.

Just about every city that's large enough to actually support an NFL team has one, at least in this country. They're quiet about it but the league hates the hell out of these franchises moving around messing everything up.

Thank you for the non snarky comment about the deep south. I was also thinking that maybe the popularity of college football might be a factor in not needing another NFL team in the deep south.

I don't agree with the just about every city that's large enough to support a team has one. The way the NFL keeps growing exponentially in popularity I think there are several cities that can support an NFL team.

This presupposes the mothers of America haven't shut down the game by then.

P.S. Toronto before Montreal and I'd add Mexico City.

Why would there ever be thought of having a team in Mexico City?? I would see all the rest of the cities mentioned, but Mexico City?
