Later on they talk about potential future general managers

"It's the same for the general managers. The same names pop up all the time: Randy Mueller, Ron Wolf and Tom Modrak. All have done some good things in their day, but why not some younger guys?

There are plenty of good ones out there. In talking with some scouts around the league, here are a few of those who deserve a look: New York Giants director of player personnel Jerry Reese; Arizona Cardinals chief college scout Steve Keim; "

How long has Steve Keim been with us????

We haven't drafted too well...but like the article said....Coaches come in and mess up what the scouts say. Could this be the case for our horrible 1st round record? Especially after they said something to the effect that cardinal coaches weren't enamored with Boldin and had to be talked into it.

If he really is supposed to be pretty good, and is getting mentioned to be a potential future GM, shouldn't we think about giving him more say in the draft? Maybe he should keep trying to talk our future coaches or Rod Graves into picking a few more Boldins if he was the guy that talked them into taking him.

Could some of our drafting mistakes be because we don't listen to our own scouts enough? Note the had to be talked into....by our scouts

It just seems to me in the past some of our bad picks were picks maybe the coaches felt they wanted because they fit the mold of the team they are trying to create.

Obviously I don't know if this is the case but it almost seems as if the coaches and GM's had most of the pull in top round, wheras later on the scouts had more say into who they should pick at #183 or so.

Ya know there could be some validity here. Granted L.Davis was a good pick IMO, but when coaches make statements of wanting 700lbs of a$$ it might clue us in a little about the cards process.

What about bryant vs. haynesworth....Haynesworth was considered 1st or 2nd best before the draft. Then he slid.

Obviously the GM or head coach depending on the setup picks the players, but how much stock do they take into Keim's and other scouts analysis of players. In other words if the coaches say are enamored with Big Ben, but the scouts think Eli is a much better prospect, why go with ben? It better be more than I like his size.

Maybe I'm pulling at straws but it just seems like this line of thinking might have been prevalent in years past.

I wish I was a fly on the wall over the past few years in the war room. It would be interesting to see if Keim said haynesworth is better than bryant, but the coaches or gm liked bryant.

This may be a little overblown, but imo if you pay good money to good scouts for analysis, you should actually use it....maybe they do, maybe they do most of the time, who knows....we'll never....but IMO if Keim said to draft boldin, he would get MAJOR pull in this year's draft. Hopefully the new cards coach and Rod Graves can recognize this.

If Keim did, and the organization recognizes this, maybe we'll have a GREAT draft this year!
