The 2025 NFL Draft is almost here, and questions abound.
Everyone assumes that the Tennessee Titans will select Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick, and the general consensus now seems to be that the QB-needy Cleveland Browns (Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter) and New York Giants (Penn State DE Abdul Carter) both will resist the temptation to overdraft Colorado QB Shadeur Sanders (Deion's kid).
But do the Patriots, picking fourth overall, go for a much-needed offensive tackle (LSU's Will Campbell)? Or could they be tempted by Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty?
Could Sanders fall to the New Orleans Saints at No. 9? Or to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21?
And will the Browns and/or Giants try to trade back into the first round to pick a different QB?
Around here, the big questions surround the three local prospects who expect to hear their names called sometime over the draft's seven rounds. Leading to Thursday night's first round, we'll be putting Boston College's two Norwell-raised offensive linemen -- tackle Ozzy Trapilo (BC High) and center Drew Kendall (Noble and Greenough School in Dedham) -- and Michigan running back Kalel Mullings (Milton Academy) in the spotlight as we examine their draft prospects.
Height: 6-8
Weight: 316
Age: 23 (turns 24 in October)
40-yard dash time: 5.21 seconds
Local connection: Raised in Norwell, attended BC High
High school highlights: Two-year starter at BC High, initially at tight end, he became a Catholic Conference All-Star, a first-team all-state pick and a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic as a senior left tackle/defensive end. ... Standout basketball player averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior; two-time All-Scholastic in that sport. ... He was a four-star college recruit.
College highlights: Super experienced, with 36 starts for BC, 24 of them at right tackle. That's in line with the draft's consensus top two tackles -- Campbell (38 starts for LSU) and Armand Membou (29 starts for Missouri). ... Two-time All-ACC selection. ... Played for two head coaches -- Jeff Hafley and Bill O'Brien.
-- The Athletic's Dane Brugler grades him as the draft's No. 7 tackle prospect, writing: "Overall, Trapilo is a towering athlete and can be jarred at contact on occasion, but he has swing-tackle traits with his smooth weight distribution and the impressive strike timing he uses to consistently complete the mission. It wouldn't be surprising to see him compete for starting right tackle reps as a rookie."
-- Lance Zierlein of the NFL Network also ranks him as the No. 7 tackle prospect, writing: "The run-blocking tape falls below the protection tape due to leverage and adjustment limitations we frequently see with taller tackles. Trapilo won’t generate much movement in the run game, but good upper-body power helps him neutralize the edge. ... Trapilo could operate as a swing tackle early on but his potential in pass protection gives him a good chance to become a starter."
Brugler has Trapilo as a third-round pick. ... ESPN's Matt Miller, in his seven-round mock draft, also projects him to go in the third round, No. 92 overall to the Seahawks. ... NFL.com's Chad Reuter, in his seven-round mock draft, projects Trapilo as a fourth-rounder, No. 111 overall to the Panthers.
Trapilo's late father Steve starred at BC High and Boston College and played five seasons in the NFL as a guard with the Saints, who picked him in the fourth round of the 1987 draft. Steve Trapilo died of a heart attack at age 39 in 2004, when Ozzy was 2 years old.
