If Cooper Kupp is coming to the Houston Texans, fans should know by Friday afternoon.
Right now, that seems unlikely given the latest updates surrounding the former Los Angeles Rams' All-Pro receiver.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys are now making a push to sign Kupp. After inking former Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders to a one-year deal, Dallas seems set on making Kupp the No. 2 target opposite All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.
Despite their push for the former tripe crown winner, Schefter also said that Dallas isn't currently considered the most likely landing spot for the recently released receiver. While a decision is expected to come by the end of the week, the location remains a mystery.
The Texans, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers have all been linked to Kupp, though none of the rosters seem like logical locations following his release and the recent free agency moves. According to The Athletic, the Seattle Seahawks are also interested in the Pro Bowler, but might not be willing to meet Kupp's asking price at $15 million annually.
Why are the Cowboys in the running? Well, Kupp’s former coach at Eastern Washington, Junior Adams, is the team's wide receivers coach, so there’s a connection between the two sides. Dallas also needs a stable No. 2 threat to pair with Lamb if plans on competing for a division title in 2025 with a healthy Dak Prescott back in the lineup.
Teams understand that Kupp's best years are likely behind him. In 2024, he caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games, including 11 starts. The 31-year-old finished his eight seasons in L.A. with 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns.
After the release of Tyler Lockett and trade of DK Metcalf, Seattle would make sense since it needs a No. 2 weapon to pair with Pro Bowler Jaxon Smith-Njigba for new quarterback Sam Darnold. Kupp is also from Washington so he’d be returning home to the Pacific Northwest.
The Texans, who traded for wide receiver Christian Kirk from Jacksonville, still need another target to pair with Nico Collins. In the draft, Houston could be focused on adding offensive line help, so if its serious about targeting Kupp, it needs to happen fast.
