* A Super Bowl on Feb. 28.
* A regular season that starts in mid-Oct.
* No bye weeks.
* No Pro Bowl.
These are all contingencies the NFL has considered as it moves forward with plans to hold a full regular season. My story with @BenFischerSBJ.

I know you won’t hear a fan complain about that. Hopefully MLB reduces its schedule and we go straight from World Series to NFL.

No bye week = lots more injuries

players union should be getting bigger piece of pie

No they should get what they agreed upon during negotiations. Then later their governing body agreed to via a vote of the masses. They should get no more no less.

Did their negotiations outline a global pandemic that will prevent most of them from getting their normal training in?

I don't like this line of thinking. You can't be prepared for every unique situation and need to operate in good faith.

irrelevant. As a cop my contract doesn’t change because the circumstances of my job could differ. You are bound by your governing contract with which they all voted on and agreed to. If you want wiggle room then put the verbiage in the contract that it can be changed mid stream.

Their jobs aren’t essential and they can freely opt to retire and not play under said conditions. They certainly as entertainers don’t need more money. That’s just laughable.

Pretty sure bye weeks are required by the CBA, along with a bunch of other details the NFL would need to change to make this schedule work. NFLPA would need to agree to modifications requested by the NFL, thus they will have leverage. I'd expect under the circumstances a solution will be negotiated that will be acceptable to both sides.

maybe. But they certainly don’t NEED more money. Utterly ludicrous to infer they do.

you have to be pretty depraved to side with owners over players in most contexts, but a Great Daned pandemic? Please tell me you don’t own a business

If your safety was put at higher risk for an unexpected situation here in Vegas created solely for the sake of entertainment (outside of the normal realm of our city), I would highly support compensating you more over letting the casino companies generate more revenue at your expense.

Appreciate all you do.

An October start date should allow proper "preseason"

we'll see, and i hope so... but is coronavirus just going to go away? will there be fans present in an october start?

so many questions because we've never faced something like this before. we all know the NFL is money motivated, they'll get the games in any way they can.

go away? No and regardless they still need to play and get back to normal at some point. People still die of H1N1 every year.. viruses don’t just disappear. It’s here to stay.

There could easily be a permanent new normal, as unpleasant as that is. Obviously, people will die of anything and everything year to year, but we didn't shut down the world for no good reason. We all want sports back, but they're not essential to human survival.

I think we'll get it under control... but there's no "need" to play.

The need to play is there for the league to make money and therefore the players getting paid.

There is no need to play for the country or humanity as a whole but a canceled season will impact a lot of league employees (just like it would employees of any industry).

Not to get too P&R on anyone, but yes, all of us want to get paid. The moment Kyler (knock on wood) goes down with a hamstring strain and misses a quarter of the season, the instant Cardinals fans tune out and the advertising dollars go.

The moment week five is outright canceled because it's wintertime and one of the New York Jets contracted Covid in a hotzone, is the moment the league stops being able to play games and make money.

I'm laid off, and my industry is dead in the water probably longer than any others. I don't even have a tiny violin to play for owners who are worth billions, and players who are worth tens to hundreds of thousands at minimum not being able to get paid.

I feel bad for league employees, but only as much as I do myself, where I'm ****ed, but pretending we can go back to normal will probably just make it worse.

(Sorry for the passion here. Hot button issue. I'm luckier than a lot right now.)

So what is your solution? Just cancel the NFL? If that isn’t what you want eventually the league is going to NEED to play games. Owners, players and the thousands of other NFL employees and contractors will want to get paid, fans will want to watch, risks will be weighed and eventually we will get games. I am sure the NFLPA and ownership will come up with an acceptable solution.

My guess is we will see a modified schedule, short training camp, less games, delayed start but the league will play. A vaccine for this virus could take years if it ever happens so I don’t see that being the determining factor, however a viable treatment option will likely be much sooner.

Again, I don't want this to turn into a P&R thread. As someone who worked with the NFL as an official partner, and whose job is furloughed/gone, what I want doesn't align with what I see as an unfortunate reality in what I know about operations.

I think "normal," as Shane put it, is out of the question. Whatever we're getting out of professional sports this year (if at all) is probably a combination of truncated play and marginal attendance.

Barring the clearance of major hurdles, yes, the NFL might be canceled this year. It's not because I don't think you can't get 53 man rosters on the same field, but because the challenges of bringing a team from a certain zone to compete against another brings exposure issues... and you might have to isolate major talent.

I'm not a fan of saying we can't play eventually, and I'm not saying we should plan on never playing again, but it sure as hell won't be normal.
