Goalies

Marcus Hogberg, NYI vs. CGY (1% rostered)

Hogberg has been very good for the Isles in a pinch this season. He’s won just two games in six starts, but he should have three wins after limiting the Canes to just two goals on 26 shots (.923 SP) before leaving the game due to a hand injury only to see Ilya Sorokin get the decision in a 3-2 overtime win on Jan. 25. Hogberg has a .938 SP and 1.70 GAA for the season and ranks second in goals saved above average per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 among goalies with at least five appearances, ranking ahead of Anthony Stolarz and Connor Hellebucyk, per naturalstattrick.com.

The Flames pulled off an impressive win against the Devils after trailing 3-1 for most of the game, but faced really inconsistent and poor goaltending from Jacob Markstrom. This test will be much harder, and with the outburst “improved” to 31th in goals per game. The Isles have won three in a row, and I think they have good chance at No. 4. Hogberg is an under-the-radar option for a good save percentage and a win.

Joonas Korpisalo, BOS at SJ (11% rostered)

The Bruins have a back-to-back and play the Kings on Sunday, which means Korpisalo likely gets this start. The Bruins have lost four straight but, surely, they can beat the Sharks, who have lost five of their past six and 6-19-3 since Jan. 1. Korpisalo has been surprisingly good in March with a .912 SP and 2.43 GAA.

The Sharks have trouble scoring and shouldn’t pose much of a threat to Korpisalo. The Sharks defense is also very banged up with three regulars out of the lineup. Korpisalo should have no problems stopping pucks and earning a win.

Jake Allen, NJ vs. OTT (20% rostered)

Allen has played very well – so well that he may take over from Jacob Markstrom for the next stretch. He’s made a ton of saves during his three-game winning streak, stopping 99 of 103 shots (.961 SP). The Sens look like they’re starting to slide again after blowing two one-goal leads against the Habs in a 6-3 loss and getting thoroughly dominated by the Avs on Thursday in a 5-1 loss.

I think Allen will definitely make a lot of saves and he’s one of the better streaming options. The Sens have juggled their lines in order to avoid a prolonged slump and they definitely hold the edge on offense and defense. A win will be difficult for Allen to earn unless he manages to steal the game.

Cam Talbot, DET at VGK (40% rostered)
Ilya Samsonov, VGK vs. DET (46% rostered)

Talbot will likely start after the Red Wings indicated they will give Petr Mrazek a break and dress Alex Lyon. Seeing how Lyon seems to be No. 3 on the depth chart, Talbot could make his first start since March 10. That’s a long layoff and the Knights are a tough matchup, not to mention this is a revenge game for them after losing in Detroit on March 16, 3-0.

With Adin Hill coming off a win, Samsonov likely gets this start with a weekend back-to-back for the Knights. The Knights have been inconsistent lately, losing two games and winning one, and Samsonov hasn’t always been reliable; however, this is a good matchup for the Knights. Samsonov should get the win but don’t expect a sparkling save percentage.

I think Talbot has generally been good this season he’s been very mediocre since January, going 3-5-1 and a .878 SP. The Wings have lost eight of their past 10 and the Knights are a strong team at home (25-7-3) with a good chance to avenge their previous loss in Detroit. Go for Samsonov if you’re looking for a win, and don’t expect either goalie to be particularly stellar.

Karel Vejmelka, UTA vs. TB (43% rostered)

Vejmelka has three wins in his past five starts but this is a tough matchup. The good news is Utah has done a pretty good job of limiting the opposition offense, but now faces the league’s No. 2-ranked offense in goals per game and No. 5-ranked power play.

A local matinee start gives Utah the advantage, but other than making a lot of saves, there’s not a lot of upside. This is the first time the Lightning and Utah will meet, but the Lightning hold the all-time edge over the Utah/Arizona franchise with a 5-2-1 record dating back to the 2019-20 season, and Vejmelka is 0-2-0 with a .866 SP and 4.60 GAA against the Lightning in his career.
