We went this morning to see Randy's first pitching vs live batters. He was looking really sharp- his velocity was still down, of course, but he was working on his location. Threw a few sliders and they broke, but weren't his old nasty slider yet. He tossed about 20-25 warm ups and then around 30'ish in the 2 innings. They were keeping really close count.
What was most encouraging to see was his demeanor. He was completely relaxed and was joking/laughing with all the youngsters. He wasn't in that typical pitching day infamous "look me in the eye and I'll kill you" zone of his- I'm sure it will resurface once games count and he is fully back. BUT, I was really watching his interaction closely (and I could since we were standing about 20 feet from him) with the team. It certainly looks like he is grateful to be home and enjoying it. Maybe will see a kinder/gentler RJ this season??
