Those who know wireless router stuff should get a kick out of this.

My Netgear wireless router has been disconnecting here and there. I even got rid of the 2.4ghz phone and it was doing it.

So I email tech support, this is what i get:

----
Click Wireless Settings under Setup.

Change the SSID from NETGEAR to any other name.
Select the appropriate region.
Change the channel to 9 or 1.
Select the security to be disable and apply the settings.

*Click wireless settings under advanced

Check the two options Enable Wireless Access Point and Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
Click Wireless card access list.
Uncheck the option "Turn Access control on" and apply the settings.

* If you have a cordless phone of 2.4 GHz, please try switching it off

Now configure the wireless computer as per the changes done on the router by scanning and connecting to the SSID (network) from the router.

Now check the connection.

Again, thanks for choosing NETGEAR and we appreciate your continued patience.
---

Thanks for basically telling to open up my wireless network to the entire realm of people around me. Why don't I unlock my doors and hand over my stuff to anyone while I'm at it?

Mike

F'ing Linksys.

My new Belkin isnt much better. Their MAC filtering is done at the firewall level, not the wireless level meaning my Xbox 360 was frozen out when I enabled MAC filtering and put in the addy of my laptop's wireless card. I had to reset the router to factory defaults just to play a game online with a buddy.

I had Linksys before and it was worse than this.

I really hate it that these things can't be up all the time. Just random disconnects...and it happens to both our laptops.

I hear ya. The wireless just isnt reliable. Both our laptops drop almost on a daily basis.

I miss the ethernet days. I once had a Win 2K/MSX 2K box that had over a year of uptime with no unplanned network or OS outages.

Keep your fists to yourself.
