Citing a league source, the Sacramento Bee reports that restricted free agent Mike Wallace is searching for a long-term contract in excess of the eight-year, $120 million deal signed by Larry Fitzgerald last August.

The Bee's Matt Barrows has been tracking the situation because the team he covers -- the 49ers -- made an inquiry about signing Wallace to an offer sheet. It's not happening if he insists on becoming one of the top three highest paid receivers in football. (Calvin Johnson and Fitzgerald are Nos. 1 and 2.) Wallace may still leave Pittsburgh if his asking price comes down, but the Steelers couldn't lock him up long term, either, on that lofty of a demand.

Um, I love Wallace and he has made many of my fantasy football wins almost on his own (particularly during the '10 season), but he's no Fitz. He might rate 85% or 90% of Fitz's money, but certainly not MORE....

The Stillers sure have a knack for picking up heady WRs. No wonder they made sure to hang on to Hines Ward for so long.

Really? He deserves 60% if that.

not to mention a team that signs him will have to provide draft compensation as well ... which should drive down their willingness to pay huge money on top of that

I read on another board that apparently the author of that story is a SF beat writer and Wallace tweeted "Don't believe everything you hear" so I doubt this claim is true.

this can't be true...that's just crazy talk right there. desean jackson signed a 50 million dollar deal right before calvin johnson signed his deal. I would say wallace's value is less than jackson. Jackson is every bit the playmaker and returns punts. wallace is dreaming and someone would be beyond ******** to give him that type of contract.

I haven't seen it reported here, but it would make a lot of sense for the Broncos to bring him in.

I don't know, if he isn't signed by the draft and we can trade down with Cle or Cin, i'd certainly give up the 21st or 22nd pick for him (if we are allowed to do that), contract demands notwithstanding.
