I'm looking to buy a Wii for my fiance who is going into med school in August. They have a game called Trauma Center where you can practice surgeries and it has been recommended by many professionals as a good tool for entry level students.

MY trouble is finding a Wii in stock. I've gone to just about every electronics store without any luck. No one will give me a straight answer as to when their next shipments will be coming in.

Does anyone have any idea when certain stores receive their shipments of Wiis?

Edit: My bad, please move this thread to "Gaming"

Get up early, check the CC ads. If they are in the ad, they will be in store. If i hear of any coming in the day before, I'll give you a heads up so you can get to the goodyear store early.

Thanks for the input guys. I found one at Frys electronics on Thunderbird. They had four in stock when I got there. They were strictly selling them in bundle kits, which included a second controllter, nunchuck, one game, and a charging station for both controllers for $409. Not a bad deal considering I was going to have to buy all of that crap anyway.

They actually have 2 Trauma Center games. The first one, and then the sequel "Second Opinion" They are both really good. I enjoyed them both, although they can be painfully frustrating/difficult at times.

I'll get the 3rd one when it comes out.

Do you work at the new store at Estrella Parkway and McDowell?

I can't imagine that she is going to get any benefit from it, having watched dcr play...I hope I'm wrong.

Right. She won't benefit, but probably have a bit more fun at it.

It's akin to a professional angler playing a fishing game. He probably won't learn how to fish any better, but he'll have more fun playing the game than the average person.

I had my first experience playing the Wii over Memorial Day weekend. I was extremely underwhelmed. I thought the controllers were very clunky and slow to respond, and really it looked like a step backward in the evolution of video games. Don't get me wrong, I love the concept, just not the execution so far.

For the sake of full disclosure, I only played a couple of games, so that probably isn't a proper representation of what they offer. Hopefully I can try out some of the newer games soon, and form a better opinion. I just don't think I'm ready to drop 3 bills on this yet.

I have seen a couple with this opinion. What games did you play?

Boxing, golf, baseball, tennis. They may be all the same game, I wasn't in charge of the selections.

Ahh, just the WiiSports game. I pretty much only like the training and the bowling on that game. That game is just the tip of the iceberg. There are several games, including the above mentioned Trauma Center which uses the Wii's controls to its potential.

Super Mario Galaxy is a blast, as well as Zelda. I haven't had a chance to get Mario Kart yet, but I want to.

Well, I'll have to try some of the others before I take the plunge, but I'm glad to hear they have better stuff out there.

Studies have shown that playing games actually helps eye-hand coordination.

Just as long as she doesn't take it too seriously (some of the "incisions" are very precise and therefore extremely frustrating) then I'd say its a decent enough starting point. I'd actually suggest the DS version of the game for a training method since the stylus would work better as practice scalpel then the Wiimote.

I actually prefer the Wiimote to the DS version. The scalpel and the forceps are much better on the Wiimote vs. the stylus IMO.
