Neymar will not make his comeback into the Brazilian national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina due to injury.

Coach Dorival Junior said late Friday that Neymar, defender Danilo and goalkeeper Ederson could not play.

No specific reason was given, but Neymar suffered a left thigh muscle injury earlier in the month.

Neymar said on Instagram: "It seemed like a comeback was imminent, but unfortunately I won't be able to wear the most difficult shirt in the world right now.

"We had long discussions and you all know how much I wanted to come back, but we came to a consensus and decided not to risk it so I could prepare better to fully recover from the injury."

Neymar, 33, was called up into the Brazil team for the first time since suffering a severe knee injury in October 2023. He only returned to action recently and left Saudi club Al Hilal for Brazil's Santos in late January.

Neymar's place in the Selecao has been taken by young Real Madrid player Endrick for the matches on Thursday against Colombia and five days later at big rivals and qualifying group leaders Argentina. Brazil are placed fifth.
