Flattering, but we have some work to do before we are Superbowl contenders

"No matter where the 2008 journey ends, there is no reason why this season can't be the start of an unprecedented run of success for the Cardinals. Long-suffering Cardinals fans have heard all of this before, of course, so a team that is almost annually tabbed to climb the ladder must set about the business of actually climbing those rungs."

Let's make the playoffs.

Let's have the Cardinals win a game.

Let's have them NOT get crushed in the very next game.

Then... Let's celebrate the 10 year playoff anniversary.

BUT the team still has 8 games to play and a lot of football to learn.
Stuff like this gets in between the players' ears and then they get blown out.
No NFL team is safe from it.

I think the Cardinals are a Superbowl team. Every year we hear about the latest trend that leads to winning a SB. It's the 2 back system, it's passing like the Rams did when they won and when Indy won, it's a completely dominant D with big tackles and a sideline to sideline MLB after the Ravens, it's the complex and interchangeable 3-4 the Patriots run.

The one real key, IMO, is do at least one thing exceptionally well and be good at everything else. We have that this year. Our offense is the best in the league and can beat you in more than 1 way. Our D has lapses but is solid enough, especially when our players remember to wrap up and let the game come to them. We have enough playmakers on that side of the ball. Our special teams are the best I've ever seen here. Rackers is having his best season in 3 years, Dirk Johnson is average but our punt coverage unit is actually competent this year. Morey has already blocked one punt this year. Arrington and Breaston are threats to take kickoffs and punts all the way back.

After the obligatory, yeah well I need to see it to believe it, which is required if you've ever suffered through a Cardinals season as a fan, I will say he's right.

I watch enough football to know how our team really stacks up, and surprisingly this year with Brady down and all that, we're not just a lot better than usual we're actually good enough to win it all.

That's talent though, actually getting it done is a whole different ballgame.

Chances are we're not enough of a team yet, we're not used to each other and the coaching scheme enough yet but talent wise we've got the horsepower.

I love this team, everyone is stepping up when needed, defensively we're a tad light to be a heavyweight contender but we make up for that with a ridiculous offense.

Chances are in any late round playoff scenario we'll cave or just not be quite good enough defensively to win it all, we're just not that consistent yet but this team is talented enough, and that is a world away from what we usually see.

I'm only focused on our next game with the 49'ers, one game at a time please.

As always you have to give the injury caveat. But stay healthy and the Cardinals are on the same level as Washington, Carolina, anybody in the NFC North, and probably Tampa Bay.

IMO, we are still a cut below the Giants and Titans, but get home field advantage for the playoffs and anything, absolutely anything, can happen. Let's win a couple division games and see how that November 23rd date with the Midgets goes. :)

I'm niether a believer or a nay sayer. I think we have the team but 'they' need to get that belief. If they can get that then why not us?

It's still too early to tell.

Right now I think the most likely outcome for this season is a divisional win, a first round win at home, and a second round loss on the road to the Giants or the Panthers/Bucs.

The Cardinals are a team that could definitely make a run similar to that of the Giants last year, though. The defense needs to improve, the offensive line needs to come together more, and Hightower has to turn out to be the answer for the running game.

Heck, right now the Cardinals could beat anybody. It's just that the chances are pretty small of pulling off 3-4 beatings in a row unless they continue to improve.

Not there yet and I'm not drinking that Kool-Aid.

A win @ PHI and/or against the NYG at home would be huge though.

Reasons why...

1./ Team Chemistry--I list this 1st because I think a united team can often be STRONGER than a MORE talented team.

2./ Coaching--This coaching staff does not seem to have their game-plan written in stone. They're developing our strengths as the season goes on and playing to them. ...And they've shown a willingness to make the TOUGH calls. (ie; Starting Kurt over Matt/ Inserting Timmy into the starting line-up.) I believe they're keeping they've kept their word in saying they're going to play the BEST players.

3./ Schedule--We play (3) out of our last (4) at HOME. I think it will be HUGE if we then get a play-off game at UofP. We'll have been in our comfort-zone for about a month and the crowd will be TOTALLY JACKED-UP!!

4./ Intangibles--Sometimes a team just has a magical season where everything falls just right. This could very well be our year. GO CARDS!

If we beat the next two teams and are sitting at 7-3, I'll get a lot closer.

I'm calling the shot now: The Cards lose in the NFC Championship game to the Giants in NY.

It would be strange to watch the Super Bowl and have it matter to me personally. For the past 20 years it has been a social gathering to drink and eat while the wives shuffle in and out to watch the commercials.

If they get into the playoffs, they're a Super Bowl contender. We've seen Wild Card teams win it all several times recently. But they need to make the playoffs and be healthy.

We better get the penalties down or we aren't going anywhere. Dumb penalties especially at the end of a game is a sign of bad focus and un disciplined play. If they wanna be Champs the gotta be Champs for 60 minutes!

And their secondary needs to tackle consistently. And their offensive line needs to stop with the mindless penalties. And, they just need to beat the 9ers next.

i wish there were other domed teams who were leading their divisions right now. I could definitely see us winning a first round home game, but if we have to go on the road to Washington or NY or Chicago in the dead of winter, our passing O is gonna have problems.

man, who the hell would have thought they'd ever see me talking about late playoff games and weather conditions... in WEEK 8 OF ANY SEASON?!

Agree. It will be difficult to be in a position to get home field thruout the playoffs, but hopefully NY,PHIL,WASH, TB,Carolina start beating each other up, and somehow get wins against Philly and NY. :koolaid:

They can beat Chicago in Chicago.

Also, NYG was able to throw the ball in -30 in GB last year.

Im not sure Warner could lose to the Giants in the playoffs. He dislikes how he was treated there.

Wouldn't that be a wonderful story? Warner returns to New York and puts the spanking on the Giants for the NFC Title?
