significant firings and their status:

1. fassel: interviewed by about 4 teams.
2. williams (bills): OC now for redskins
3. dan reeves: may be retired...probably to old and he had health issues in the past.
4. callahan: looks like he will he HC at Nebraska
5. jaroun: might be head coach in buffalo - was interviewed.
6. cottrell (only dc fired on list): now in minn
7. spurrier: told everyone he taking 2004 off and will return to college.
8. Mcginnis...nothing...although in fairness to Mac - he may have a handshake (i.e. secret) deal to do something for the Panthers (who are in the playoffs). I also suppose he may get a look to be on the staff of a few other teams when they get a head coach. Hope he was not counting on fassell...he may be be a HC. You would think you would hear more on Mac interviewing given his popularity. Maybe he has..and it was just not reported.

According to the EVT, Mac is right behind Jauron as Coughlin's candidate to be DC of the Giants.

More intriguing are the three playoff-limited assistants who may be left high and dry:

Lovie Smith
Romeo Crennel
Jim Johnson

swd: At a mimimum he will get an offer as an LB coach. Wonder how he would work with coughlin?..

The problem is that a new job as a LB coach will not pay him anywhere near the $800 or $900 thousand the cardinals owe him...so if it were me - I would sit out (as my understanding is that if he takes another NFL job the cardinals do not have to pay him)..and I am not sure Mac is a New york (or new jersey) kind of guy - and he could go do tv for a year and still get paid from the cardinals...

if he gets a DC job..I would suspect he would take it..no matter where it was.
