The Cards were surely hoping a serviceable tackle might get cut. No such luck. The best guy out there, Austin Pasztor, started at right tackle for the Jags in several games. He allowed 5 sacks, but did play penalty free. His run blocking is actually decent, but he looks more like a guard than a tackle. His pass blocking is certainly no better than what the Cards already have. A trade may yet happen, but the Cards would have to overpay.

Any vet CBs or ILBs you like? With Spoon & Fua we have 2 WiLB and Minter & Demens are our 2 SiLB. Plus we have Bucannon playing mostly nickel backer. Seems mostly set.

Harry I think we will be fine at tackle with Watford. He has very good feet for the position and Massie will only be out two games. The center position is the one I'm worried about. I just don't like Shipley or Sendlein at center. They both get pushed back and moved aside to easily.

I saw in another thread that someone brought him up.

I don't know enough about him, but the FO should be looking at all options and they should know how he rates.

Barrett Jones won the Outland Trophy as a Junior when he played left tackle and then won the Rimington as a Senior after the Tide moved him inside to center. There is nobody with a better resume coming out of college. That's the good news.

The bad news is that he can't stay healthy and is a finesse player. The Cardinals already have "not strong enough to anchor the center".

It seems to me that they are not so much as producing pro football players down in Tuscaloosa as they are chewing them up and using them up at the collegiate level.

IMO we are not trading for a tackle, we have 3 who can play between Watford, massie and hump

I am quite sure that the Cards will try to get Steen onto the PS. I believe that he has shown enough this off season to be a significant carry over for genuine competition to both Sendlein and Shipley next year. He is bigger and stronger that either of them, and if given a full season to learn the nuances of our play book might just go very far towards him being one of the options for center next year.

I don't understand the big love affair with Steen on this board. I think he is a beneficiary of "group think". I've watched him fairly closely in preseason because I constantly read about him on this board. He's not that good. I taped preseason game 4 last night on NFL Network, and will again watch today to try and find out what everybody loves about him.

Vermont, imo, a lot of the love for Steen is three-fold:
1. He's young and should improve.
2. He can play center and guard.
3. He's not Sendlein or Shipley, meaning that the grass is always............

I have watched Steen closely as well, all 4 games. He has footwork inconsistencies (which is common for young centers) and until he straightens out his footwork, he's a PS player. That said, he often gets good leverage, he's has solid upper body strength and as a center his snaps are crisp and on target. If he ever learns to sink and roll his hips better, he could be real good. He plays a little too upright.

It is surely not like the QB position, but it is my understanding that center has to know the offense well because he calls the protection schemes... I just do not see a pick up now and especially a young guy that could play the position for Arian's offense and keep Palmer protected

Yes, CB is dangerously thin, especially for a team that lacks a premier pass rusher. This could prove a disastrous combination. OT presents the issue of risking the only QB capable of taking this team to playoff wins. A season-ending injury would be an accurately named event. These are really the only two major deficiencies, but they are huge ones.
