If the A-Rod trade goes through, the Red Sox will get Ordonez from the White Sox for Nomar

Wow....that shores up their left field problem

Maybe someone can explain why the White Sox would trade away (arguably) their top player for Nomar? I am not getting this unless it is a prelude to them dealing Nomar further West. I haven't heard what the Sox may be planning...if anything.

It's not like Nomar is the worst player in the leauge, now. Top rate shortstops are generally not around. My guess is the Sox have outfield prospects or figure it's easier to obtain a quality outfielder than a quality shortstop.

The players union rejected the A-Rod deal. There is a 6:00PM EST Thursday deadline to get the deal done or it will never happen.

I am not bashing Nomar but the trade seemed weird (I suppose when valentin and Grffanino are your SS's...)...until I saw this:

The proposed deal would send Ramirez to Texas, Rodriguez to Boston and shortstop Nomar Garciaparra to Los Angeles. The Dodgers then would ship a package of pitchers to Chicago and the White Sox would send Ordonez to Boston.

A source said the Sox were asking for three pitchers from the Dodgers—lefty Odalis Perez, ace reliever Guillermo Mota and top-notch prospect Greg Miller. It's also possible Boston would send reliever Scott Williamson to Chicago in the deal.
