Even coming off an injury, the Seattle Seahawks thought enough of Notre Dame defensive lineman Rylie Mills to take him in the NFL draft with the No. 142 overall pick of the fifth round.
The senior had a huge final year in South Bend, registering 7.5 sacks and playing with great fundamentals at his position. It was a huge loss for the Irish when he was lost during the College Football Playoff run, but Mills did enough to get drafted.
It was a great moment for him, as he accomplished one of his biggest dreams. Social media was sure happy for Mills to get selected, all seemingly shared the same thoughts, and here are some of the best reactions.
Another member of the 2024 Notre Dame team gets picked, making Mills the fourth of this draft. More will come, but this moment had to be special for him.
Before Freeman took over the head coaching position, he was Mills defensive coordinator and the trust was built then. The two have plenty of great memories together and Freeman knows the best is yet to come for Mills.
As long as Mills can recovery fully from his ACL injury, he’s going to outperform his draft slot. Since it happened so late in the season, there is some potential that he won’t be ready when fall camp starts, but he’s worth the risk.
It goes to show you that sometimes listening to the outside noise just isn’t a good idea, and this seems to be the case with Mills. Even with the injury, he most likely did very well with his interviews with teams, showing that he’s a value in the locker room as well.
Not sure enough people saw Dugar’s post, as it seems very much like Mills could be ready for the season to start. That would be great news for both parties, and most likely played a part in Seattle picking him.
During his Notre Dame career, Mills played all along the defensive line, and he has the skill set to do the same in the NFL. The Seahawks most likely will bring him along a bit slower than others, but he could end up getting snaps on the inside and outside.

A value pick for Seattle
Had a third round grade on Rylie Mills. Injury is the only reason he lasted. Was highly disruptive for Notre Dame, very good athlete and lots of talent to work with here. Great roll of the dice for the #Seahawks in round five

Really interesting?
WHOA! Rylie Mills is REALLY interesting!
Had been rising lately. Coaches/scouts liked him more than the public. Rehabbing from a January ACL I believe.
Big, long DL.

This clears up Mills’ injury questions
Rylie Mills came to Seattle on a top 30 visit & combine. Said all interactions were positive & this is where he’s meant to be. He tore his ACL in the CFP but says he’s ahead of schedule, walking regularly, starting to run and is hopeful to be on the field before training camp.

Mills has versatility
ACL is ahead of schedule he said.
Rylie Mills said that we are getting a "gritty tough player at DT and DE.
