Notre Dame hockey fans have seen Jeff Jackson behind the bench as coach for so long that it's hard to imagine life without him. They'll have to get used to it as Jackson, who announced his retirement effective at the end of this season, coached his final game as the Irish suffered a 1-0 loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
About the only thing Jackson didn't do with the Irish was win a national title. But that shouldn't take away from the fact that the Irish have thrived under him. Any coach would take only one of the many accomplishments Jackson has collected over the years.
Jackson will be replaced by associate head coach and former Irish player Brock Sheahan. While hopes are high that Sheahan will continue the Irish's tradition of excellence will have a tough time living up to his predecessor with accomplishments like these:
Best of luck to Jackson in the next chapter of his life.
