I know a lot of people want to get Peterson, but let's face the reality-- the team has a lot of money invested in James and cannot afford the luxury of ignoring a need position like the one gaping in the secondary or on the OLine to pick a luxury pick like Peterson.

I CAN see them going after someone like Tony Hunt in the third if he falls, but not anything before then.

It's shaping up to have six players in the top tier of players with maybe another or two when the combines are done. Of those six Russell, Quinn, Peterson, Johnson, Thomas and Adams, we need to take one of them (outside of the QB's) at five or trade out and p/u an extra 2nd for whoever wants one of them. RB is not a luxury position and you can't have enough explosion or depth there. I for one would be content going that way and addressing other "needs" through FA.

Hunt will be history before the 3rd round IMO.

Tony Hunt is a BUM of a RB who will probably captialize off his workout numbers.

Yeah, right  If the same guy played for FSU, he'd be a steal.

He's no star. He doesn't have flash. He's a decent pounder who can excell in short-yardage situations. He has a bit of deceptive speed and a few moves, but not enough to propel him high in the draft. IMO, 3rd round at best.

Matter of fact, scratch that last comment. I was thinking about another PSU running back.

EDIT: Austin Scott was who I was thinking of.

I like Hunt. Watching their bowl game I was thinking that he'd be a good back for us to take 3rd or later. Assuming Shipp signs with someone else this offseason we won't have any RBs with much size. JJ sure isn't a banger and Edge can't play every down. A big positive with Hunt is that he's an all-around back. He's a willing pass blocker which is huge in the NFL. We need a guy like him that we can trot out a couple times a game.

We can now officially turn ourselves to the draft(and new HC search) so here is my initial mock for the Cards come April.I'm going to assume we re-sign Davis and sign a CB,LB for free agency

1-Ted Ginn,WR Ohio State- i've been against taking him at 5 but i'm getting convinced that he could really make this offense lethal.Speed kills and he'll run about 4.2 40.
2-Brandon Merriweather,FS Miami-We won't get Nelson or Landry but Merriweather is right there in their class. He has some perosnal issues but talent-wise he's a sure fire first rounder.
3-Arron Sears, OT Tennesssee- Huge OT that can be groomed to be Wells replacement.I believe he was a 4 year starter at Tennessee.
4-Mrkisto Bruce, DE WSU- he has pass rush potential and we need some youth there.
5-Prescott Burgess,LB Michigan- great athlete who needs to transfer it the playing field.
6 and 7-the best CB's left on the board

We already have the three best receivers on any one team in the NFL and have a lot more needs than a WR. How about a DB, OL. Dl. We had no trouble passing the ball but still have trouble defending big time. No pass rush at all.

My favorite choices for the #5 spot as for right now, in no order -

DE - Gaines Adams
DT - Alan Branch
RB - Peterson, Lynch
Trade Down

And yes I am a BPA kind of guy. Except for QB and WR in the first round.

Adams is a bit of an enigma to me. I saw quite a bit of him this year. At the college ranks he looks like a man amongst boys...he has tremendous physical abilities...but he often plays top-heavy...and there are stretches in games where he disappears, production wise (it's never hard to miss him on tape that's for sure).

With Petrino leaving I think Brohm will come out. And some think that if Brohm come out his best WR - Mario Urrutia will follow him maybe even more so that his coach is gone.

Also does this mean that Bush wont try to get his medical redshirt now?

Also another really good WR will be coming out according to the ESPN ticker - Sidney Rice of South Carolina. If Jarrett Comes out Rice may puch Ginn to the 4th WR taken.

Also I just heard that another really good DE will be coming out from Arkansas - DE - Jamaal Anderson.

Some really good juniors coming out so far it would seem.

If Jarrett comes out, Ginn is automatically the fifth best receiver in this class. And if Mario Urrita comes out, possibly sixth.

I hope they push Ginn all the way to the second round then. (have a crappy bowl game, Teddy).

Look at the effect Hester has had and he didn't even get much playing time at his position. Even if Ginn doesn't play much at WR (and he would, btw) he'd definitely be a great pick in the 2nd.

Yeah, he has his negatives, but I'd be all over him as the pick in the 2nd.

Not bad...I like it. Add a FS in there, and I'm all for your list.

Maybe it's just me, but I am just not sold on Gaines Adams. He's really talented, don't get me wrong, but I just don't love the guy as a prospect.

Once he runs a 4.27 at the combine he'll be back up battling for the 2nd WR taken. Game breaking speed goes a long way come draft day. And, it's not like he hasn't been productive to go along with that speed.

My favorite for our second round pick is now Jon Beason from the U.
