Former Fordham quarterback John Skelton continues to prove critics wrong in the NFL with Cardinals

By Hank Gola

John Skelton sets Fordham records with 9,923 passing yards and 69 touchdown passes.

Skelton goes to the Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL draft and makes first career start last Sunday in win over Broncos. Related NewsFordham QB muscles way into NFL Draft conversation

A bad year kept getting worse for Broncos fans: a 3-10 record, an embarrassing scandal involving their video guy, the firing of a coach and finally a question many were tweeting after Sunday's 43-13 loss to the Cardinals:

"Why is our Heisman winning quarterback not ready and we're losing to a rookie quarterback from Fordham?"

In fact, when Skelton's parents, John and Anna, were entering the stadium, they ran into starting guard Deuce Lutui.

"He told us, 'I liked that kid since two-a-days and I told him one day you'll be a star,'" papa Skelton said. "He gave my wife a hug and said, 'Don't worry, I've got your baby's back.'"

I wonder how serious the conversation was.

I wonder if Skelton's parents were relieved or scared out of their mind when Lutui told them he had their son's back?

Deuce

The DeuceMeister and his 1 keg abs, He would be my number 1 choice in the NFL to have my back, Deuce aint scared of nothin even DD, He laughs in the face of attacking bears, He'll dance the Tonga with any fool,

great read, now we need to balance it up for the rookie, max protect him, give him an enviroment to grow strong and true.

I can't even glimpse his potential yet, but I'm read to give him a bump on the old thesmel grade for frothy emotional appeal, but his play must have depth and weight.

I've heard former players say they know very early on if the a new QB has it. I forget who the guy was but they said the rookie came in and after his first pass, the veterans were like, " wow,we have a good one here".

Sounds like Deuce said as much to his parents right after he saw him in two a days.

Before I crawl back in my cave:

Joe Montana said " I can tell if five minutes if a guy is an NFL QB." (sic)
