Nick Castellanos has an uncanny ability to hit home runs in the middle of historic moments and Sunday was no exception.
We all basically know the meme by now that Castellanos seems to hit a home run every time major news breaks or during unfortunate announcer reads. It's a meme that's followed the Philadelphia Phillies player since his time as a Cincinnati Red back in 2020. While Castellanos home runs are usually followed by unfortunate or ill-timed news, on Sunday fans saw a positive outcome of this meme in effect after Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal, breaking Wayne Gretzky's long-standing NHL record.
Yes, really. Not long after Ovechkin became the NHL's leader in career goals scored on an incredible tally against the New York Islanders, Castellanos smashed a grand slam to left field to give the Phillies a 6-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The grand slam amused many a sports fan on Sunday, as they too noticed the hilarious endurance of this weird meme that keeps on giving.

Ovi sets the all-time NHL goal scoring record and Nick Castellanos hits a grand slam less than an hour later. The man is just clutch on historic days

Alex Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer and 20 mins later Nick Castellanos hit a grand slam

The Nick Castellanos grand slam was realistically inevitable after Ovechkin broke the record if we’re being honest

Wouldn’t you know it Castellanos with a grand slam on the day Ovechkin breaks the record. Holy moly.
