It would appear that the Indianapolis Colts for have a while, known that their running back James, would be leaving via free agency. They have instead chosen to extend the contract of wide reciever Wayne. My question is: Why? What does Wayne bring to the table that "the Edge" does not? At what point does a very good WR bring to the table that a very good RB does not? Which would you keep if you were the Colts (think as a Colt GM, not a Cardinal fan)?

For the life of me I can't understand why they would let James go. To me he is the piece of the puzzle that makes everything go. He is a great runner, pass catcher and blocker. And unless they find a credible replacement they may struggle next year.

If I was the Colt's owner, I would want to resign James. He is far too important to the offense.

They don't have faith in their #3 wide receiver, but do belive that Mungro, a cheaper fa, or draft pick could fill in for Edge.

That's it in a nutshell.

RBs are easier to replace. James will be 29 soon? He's not that far off from when RBs start to break down and has had one major knee surgery. He's a great back, but he's also become a grinder lately. For the number of 7 man fronts he saw this year he had very few 20+ yard runs. He's become a guy who will get you 4 yards, but not break one.

Now, that said, he's the best all around back on the market this year. BUT realize that you will be overpaying for him, and you will sign him for more years than he will be truely productive for.

Dominic Rhodes was a 1,000 yard back running behind the Colts O-line. 'nuff said.

Either guy, if let go, will make some team extremely happy when they sign one of these guys. Maybe they figure they can trade for Ricky Williams to replace Edge. So far a 3rd rounder is all the Dolphins are hearing. Edge ends up in Miami where he wants to be , the Dolphins keep Williams and trade their #1 to Colts, which the Colts use to grab Moroney or D'angelo Williams.

Just dreaming.

That'd be hysterical, Ricky going to the Colts, where ALL the draft experts had him going in the first place. I remember how it was a huge shocker, and considered a reach, when Edge went to the Colts.

What on god's green earth would the Dolphins do with Ronnie Brown, Edgerrin James and Ricky Williams all at once?

But as you said.....just dreaming (I hope you meant this).
