Yes, I know. Way overdue. Busy week with VIP visits and Year-End Dinners.

Along with everyone here I was super dissapointed by this game.

The team appeared flat with little energy. The scheme was meh. Kyler had a horrible game. O-line made to many mistakes.

SCHEME
Repeat of last week's game against Vikings. Adjustments are being made, but not on a consistent basis and Pertzing/Kyler too often fall back to basic, which is the 12 personal.

I DO NOT GET IT!

The default scheme is 12 personal with a gap running game utilizing lots of pulling linemen if the D is in nickle and creates mismatches in the passing game if the D is in base. We have seen this being highly effective, because there is the flexibility to hit the D off guard no matter what formation they are playing. BUT! what we have seen the last 3 weeks are 2 defenses that can challenge our offensive style by shooting the G gaps or take out McBride/MHJ. There are alternatives, but super inconsistent.
There was actually some creativity in the 1st half and then it disappeared in the 2nd half.

A few examples.

Kyler has been absolutely horrific when pressured up the middle. Where are the roll-out passes. 2 a game? Why not 5-8?

The involvement of other players. Great play design to get Wilson open for the TD on the opening drive. Zay Jones sighting and a good catch. It's actually working well when designed, so why are we back to forcing the ball to MHJ in contested catches and non creative plays most of the time?

Tip Reiman is a HUGE but very athletic TE. I had a 1st down last week using his body to create seperation and great playdesign this week letting him chip and then slide out for a nice gain. He's big. He's athletic. Not saying he's McBride, BUT nothing we have seen indicates that he is an issue. He has catched balls coming his way. Where was Higgins?

O-Line
Last point I put under O-line. The guard spots are being exposed. I wrote in the bye week analysis that the O-line was producing better than the talent suggest. That didn't hold up in the last three games. The guards had been playing great, but against really good D-lines we start to see why Brown and Colon are playing at the salary they have. They have been dominated.

Colon lost his starting job to Adams - playing the entire game. Adams is more stout at the point of attack and holds his ground better, pulls good, but still a huge liability in pass pro as we saw on the 2nd Kyler sack late in the 2nd.

But the play was not good.
2nd Drive - 1st Q 3:35 left.
A nice pass and Catch to MHJ gets called back due to holding on Froholdt. What is concerning is that Froholdt has to hold a player being double-teamed on his left side. Brown is actually there to make the block. Froholdt is not getting much help.

2nd play of the game is one of the default runs outside with a pulling guard. Seattle DT lines up in a 45 degree angle to shoot the gap and is immediately in the backfield to blow up the play. Froholdt is supposed to make that play, but has ZERO chance when Seatlle shoots the gap and are expecting that exact play. This is where the adjustment is lacking. Seattle is playing specifically to blow up the preferred running play if the Cardinals and if we do run that play, they know the guards are more finesse and will struggle to hold up.

This is a concern. Defenses are targeting our guards and the guards and not providing much help leaving Froholdt in a bad spot. This is not an excuse of Froholdt. He didn't exactly have a great game either, but the guards are not providing much help.

Later in the 2nd they actually called the same run, but with a different scheme, with Froholdt pulling. That was much better, except this time Williams missed is downblock and Connor was met in the backfield.

PJJ struggled in this game.

I need to see something diffrent. I need to see Petzing helping out with more creativity. We need better performance from the O-line, especially the guards. Otherwise, I'm thinking G goes into the need category for Free agency (4 of the top 5 Gs per Pff are free agents after this season)
