D'backs should try to get Melvin to take the bench coach job. It doesn't appear there is going to be any more manager positions available at this point in time. The Diamondbacks were a different team when Melvin left to coach the Mariners, and with a rookie manager taking the helm, Backman needs all the help he can get.

Also, possibly give the 3rd base job to Pedrique then you would effectively have 3 guys with Major League managerial experience (counting Backman) on the coaching staff. Well, maybe you can't quite count Pedrique with the guys he coached last year :p

Screw Bob Melvin. I say Backman brings back some of the '86 Mets to put on the coaching staff.

Pitching coach - Ron Darling
Hitting coach - Howard Johnson
Fielding Coach - Keith Hernandez
Bench Coach - Lenny 'Nails' Dykstra
Bullpen coach - John Franco (all mob guys retire out here)
Drug/Steroid Peddlers - Daryl Strawberry, Vince Coleman and Doc Gooden

Load the team plane up with a bunch of coke, booze, and hookers and let the melee begin which hopefully results in a World Series.

That has to be the worst post I seen from you on the DBacks forum.

It was a joke. I like the Backman hiring, from what I have heard he won't stand for fundamentally poor baseball and won't encourage a swing for the fences approach that has never consistently worked in the NL. But in all seriousness, I do think Ron Darling would be a good pitching coach.

National League managing on the Diamondbacks. I'm looking forward to it.
