Offense looked alright.

But to many errors, bad clock management, turnovers, and Special Teams lost the game for us.

Lots and lots of bad stuff.

BUT.... Some good things. Anquan Boldin! Looks great. Smith looked alright. Blake looked decent BUT HOLD ON TO THE FRIGGIN BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Start going at it fellas.

Regardless it was a pretty good game. Exciting. We are NOT good enough to make that many mistakes.

Peace

I thought there were some great positives (opening drive td, anquan boldin, running game etc) but of course the the negatives (lack of defensive pressure, special teams, mental mistakes, stupid turnovers, etc) completely overshadows it all.

And the fact that we lost to the lions just makes me want to gag, too.

I hate to say it - I am a huge fan of mcginnis - but he got his ass kicked in the coaching department by mariucchi. penalty errors (clement), clock management, too little too late in blitzing department. although sullivan/jeep/blake can be blamed for the delay penalties and not getting 3 in the 1st half at the end - and marmie can be blamed for lack of blitzing the 1st 3 quarters - and hank kuhlman can be blamed for the horrific special teams play - at the end of the day it all falls on the head coach.

The lions had a 2nd year qb play error free football, very good play calling, no turnovers.

Yes Anquan is the man. However if thats our pass rush and thats our special teams the number one draft pick will be ours thisd year. I'm an optimist by nature. I have never seen so many stupid penalties as we had this game. Our special team coach needs to be fired to make a statement right now.

16 weeks of this will kill me. Number 65 should fined. Johnson hit right on the chest for a TD no excuse. NO time for Blake plenty of time for arrington asdide from Boldin and Emmitt I see no upsaide.

Let's face it, we handed the Lions this game. So many mistakes! But the season is not over...there are many things we can do better:

- the Offensive Line will gel and even though they were off today they showed some ability to create holes and give Blake time to pass.

- the defense did not get the kind of pressure they were getting in the preseason. I don't think our preseason was a fluke and i expect to see improvement here next week.

- game management mistakes cost us a lot and should be fixable

- teams will start to scheme against Boldin but Gilmore and Johnson still have potential to make plays for us

However, all this is moot if we can't control field position on special teams. And while Blake looks better than Plummer he can't give up the turnovers that he did.

I tend to agree with you. In the past, I'd give Coach Mac the benefit of the doubt. IMO, the talent on the field was better than the Lions - stupid penalties and turnovers cost it. That falls on coaching.

I disagree that we didn't try to blitz until late in the game. If anything, we pulled off of blitzing some because they picked everyone of them up and hurt us a couple of time. They picked up our blitzes beautifully, which is good coaching as you said.

Blakes turnovers have nothing to do with Mcginnis coaching!

Neither do Clements mental lapses on the false starts. these are veterans who know what they are supposed to do and the blame lands squarely on there shoulders IMO!

We are usually one of the least if not the least penalized team in the league that shows Mcginnis is a good coach. For some reason or another th eplayers just BRAIN FARTED TODAY!

No pressure on the QB and special teams play...

The biggest question is if the special teams had not been so bad would the defense have been able to stop the Lions offense? The total offense by the Lions was not very good but the only thing that stopped them all day was the endzone.

The special teams suck from noodle legged Gramattica, to the coverage teams.

We still have no pass rush.

Our LBs are horrible when they have to drop back in to coverage.

Renaldo Hill is NOT a starting caliber NFL DB.

Our Offensive Line is overrated and looks to me like they will never reach their "potential". Repeat penalties by Clement can't be excused.

Blake looked sharp most of the game--better than we would have expected from Plummer.

Boldin looks like a great pick--I questioned it on draft day but he gave us the type of plays we'd expect from David Boston ...actually better than Boston ever did. Now he just has to be consistently a threat.

Todays game was one of my 5 "wins" I had counted on.

I'm disappointed but I really didn't expect too much this year. Next year is when I expect to see some winning.

POSITIVES:
1. 1st Quarter Touchdown! Hey-hey we can do it!
2. Decent to Good Pass Protection!
3. Emmitt Smith picking up the blitzes beautifully. Did you see how many times he saved Blakes ass?
4. BOLDIN!
5. Freddie Jones has been "seen"!
6. 24 total points! For this group...that's insipiring!

NEGATIVES:
1. Absolutely terrible run blocking. Our line is WAY overrated.
2. No sacks...no pressure.
3. 2nd year QB lights up our "questionable" secondary for 4 TD's. Oooouch!
4. Unbelievably poor clock management.
5. No forced turnovers

Hey Shane!

Disagree with you tho. I was encouraged by the preseason with almost no penalties, but today was ridiculous. I don't know if we even had a "false start" in the preseason, but like 4-5 today?

OT: I saw that Vegas got hit by a flood a couple weeks ago - sounds like you survived OK!

Yes, that is a huge stat. NO BIG PLAYS ON DEFENSE! It was a poor performance on defense.

Our offensive line should be reemed by fans, coaches, press, and anyone else that feels like doing so. The offensive line looked AWFUL. That was supposed to be a strength. If they don't get better we are in for a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY loooonnng season.

Mac's game management was horrendous. He absolutely stunk it up. When the game got "hot" he looked scared out there - plain and simple. And thinking about it, that's what he looked like most of last season when the games heated up. No excuse. Although, I'm sure there will be plenty for him on this board.

This loss even looks worse after seeing Okeafor, Wilkinson, and Holliday had big days.

Our defense and special teams have to get better somehow or we won't win a game this season.

42 points is A LOT and it was against the Lions no less.

Things not looking good on the defensive end of the ball.

Wilson, and Bryant looked really bad today which is also disheartening.

Boldin, Smith, Shipp, and Freddie Jones are the few that looked like NFL players out there.

As for Blake, well, I am not going to say I am happy. Instead being the opposite of Plummer he looked like Plummer with a REALLY bad INT, and a bad fumble.

Peace

I pretty much agree with what you said. Here is my take:

POSITIVES:
1. 1st Quarter Touchdown! It sure was nice to see some points put up early!
2. Emmitt Smith picking up the blitzes beautifully. He did save Blakes ass several times. Also Smith looked great the few times his Line could open a hole for him.
3. BOLDIN! Right after we drafted Boldin I predicted that he would be the offensive rookie of the year. He sure made a statement today.
4. Early in the season I wrote an article stating that Blake would make Freddie Jones one of the top TE in the league. After one game Freddie has already tied his TD total from last year.

NEGATIVES:
1. Absolutely terrible run blocking. Our line is WAY overrated.
2. No sacks...no pressure.
3. Horrible Special Teams play cost us the game
4. Unbelievably poor clock management. Rookie OC has some growing pains I guess. This is a negative belongs to the coaches.
5. Turnovers (Cards gave Lions an early christmas gift with all of the Turnovers)
6. Penalties (specifically the mental ones like Clement's false starts and all of the delay of games)

Overall I thought that the Cards looked sloppy. Sure didn't look like the team that went 4-0 in the preseason. I don't remember the team looking sloppy like this in the preseason so it really shocked me. The good news is I believe that this is fixable. It's up to Mac and the rest of the coaches to make sure the team is mentally ready to play come Sunday. I give this loss to the Coaching staff.

I do have serious concerns. The Special teams continues to struggle. Clearly the Cards need to spend more time on this in practice.

The offensive line looked more like a liability than a stength. Chris Dishman got destroyed by Wilkenson. Overall the Line played way below expectations. Hopefully Davis will get that cast off soon. Also Garcia will be back in 3 weeks so that should help.

I think that the D line played the run OK. However they obviously didn't generate any pressure. I'm not sure there is anything we can do about that other than hope that Pace and Bryant continue to develope.

It is the coaches responsibility to make sure his team is mentally ready for the game. I agree that the player that commits the foul is responsible but part of the blame goes on the coach also. This team played sloppy and I believe that is the coaches responsiblity also.

I wonder if some of you watched the game, we had decent presure on the QB, not great but a bigtime upgrade from what I have seen in the past. Special teams is what lost this game its that simple, you allow a TD and give them the ball at their own 35 9 times out of 10 you'll lose.

Ok then tell me as a coach what can you tell an 11 year veteran QB to make him look at the clock as hes getting ready to snap the ball?

What can you tell Clement to make him not jump? What can a coach do to force there mind into the game? A rookie I might buy it but not mental lapses from veterans of these guys caliber!

Yeah I think I watched the game.

73 yard run.

Dumb fumble, Dumb INT, Defense dissapearing in the 3rd quarter and making no Big Plays?

Is that the same one.

But yes Special Teams. ALL FIRED!
And I think OL is overrated.

L.Davis+CLement trade bait?
for defense!
Peace
