3. Emmitt Smith picking up the blitzes beautifully. Did you see how many times he saved Blakes ass?
4. BOLDIN!
5. Freddie Jones has been "seen"!
6. 24 total points! For this group...that's insipiring!
NEGATIVES:
1. Absolutely terrible run blocking. Our line is WAY overrated.
2. No sacks...no pressure.
3. 2nd year QB lights up our "questionable" secondary for 4 TD's. Oooouch!
4. Unbelievably poor clock management.
5. No forced turnovers
I pretty much agree with what you said. Here is my take:
POSITIVES:
1. 1st Quarter Touchdown! It sure was nice to see some points put up early!
2. Emmitt Smith picking up the blitzes beautifully. He did save Blakes ass several times. Also Smith looked great the few times his Line could open a hole for him.
3. BOLDIN! Right after we drafted Boldin I predicted that he would be the offensive rookie of the year. He sure made a statement today.
4. Early in the season I wrote an article stating that Blake would make Freddie Jones one of the top TE in the league. After one game Freddie has already tied his TD total from last year.
NEGATIVES:
1. Absolutely terrible run blocking. Our line is WAY overrated.
2. No sacks...no pressure.
3. Horrible Special Teams play cost us the game
4. Unbelievably poor clock management. Rookie OC has some growing pains I guess. This is a negative belongs to the coaches.
5. Turnovers (Cards gave Lions an early christmas gift with all of the Turnovers)
6. Penalties (specifically the mental ones like Clement's false starts and all of the delay of games)
Overall I thought that the Cards looked sloppy. Sure didn't look like the team that went 4-0 in the preseason. I don't remember the team looking sloppy like this in the preseason so it really shocked me. The good news is I believe that this is fixable. It's up to Mac and the rest of the coaches to make sure the team is mentally ready to play come Sunday. I give this loss to the Coaching staff.
I do have serious concerns. The Special teams continues to struggle. Clearly the Cards need to spend more time on this in practice.
The offensive line looked more like a liability than a stength. Chris Dishman got destroyed by Wilkenson. Overall the Line played way below expectations. Hopefully Davis will get that cast off soon. Also Garcia will be back in 3 weeks so that should help.
I think that the D line played the run OK. However they obviously didn't generate any pressure. I'm not sure there is anything we can do about that other than hope that Pace and Bryant continue to develope.
