I remember when an athlete did this, it was scandalous. Now, it's almost half charming because he didn't murder anyone, he didn't get a DUI, and his girlfriend isn't mysteriously missing.

I agree, nothing major is going to come out of this (a big fine, revocation of license because it is his second offense) but LAD/MLB is not going to suspend him or anything like that. As long as he produces on the field LA will tolerate antics like this.

Only if his transgressions are not overly repetitive. If he keeps this crap up on a fairly regular basis, which I believe he will, baseball will have to take some sort of action.... "big star" or not. If they went after A-Rod, they will go after this numbskull.

MLB isn't the NFL under Roger Goddell where the league takes action against players who act stupid on the regular. The reason MLB went after A-Rod is because of the league wide stance on banning PED's and A-Rod's repeat offense and cover up that made a fool of Bud Selig. Unless player's kill someone, then that would force action against them but anything short of that, it is frowned upon but leniency is shown by all leagues other than the NFL.

Unfortunately, this is the society we live in where athletes (especially superstars) live above the law because their prolonged absence from playing hurts television ratings and franchises ability to win which takes priority over everything else.

We'll know for sure in a few years..... :D

Wishful thinking by DBacks fans at this point IMO. Miguel Cabrera had worse problems than this and he's an MVP triple crown winner.

If Puig fails, it will because he doesn't learn how to work pitch counts and lay off pitches.

Would be nice if the DBacks developed a Puig at some point.

This. Josh Hamilton also comes to mind.

When? Not too long ago, sports writers would ignore this stuff...

You got that wrong, Goldschmidt was developed, Puig was not. He played 63 minor league games ever. Cuba developed him. ;)

I see - so DWKB wants the Dbacks to sign unknown Cuban defectors to $42 Million contracts in hopes of catching lightning in a bottle.

As if the Dodgers "developed" Puig...

Cabrera, for all his failings off the field, still played the game (for the most part) with respect. He rarely, if ever conducted himself in the pompous, careless, reckless manner that Puig demonstrates on a daily basis.
Puig completely shirks his responsibility to the T.E.A.M. His intentioanlly blows off his coaches (running the bases without any respect for the 3rd base coach), he routinely and intentionally throws over and past cut-off men simply to show-off his arm. He attempts acrobatic catches when discretion would've always been the more appropriate play - yet he can't shove aside his desire for the spotlight. He's a narcicist of the worst order and it will take a substantial slap upside his coconut before he realizes how much of a dangerous buffoon he's been...

Eh, defensive bunch. I didn't make any inference that Puig was developed from a farm system. That was assumed by others. I just meant having a player break out. Sadly, Goldy did completely leave my mind.

As for his problems, I think they are the wet dreams of many DBack fans and Miguel Montero, who seems to have an opinion on lots of people while personally playing like ****. Frankly that's an attitude problem IMO.

The Dodgers seemed happy with Puig. I just hate the projections many do here focusing so much on personality instead of performance. It's like they think they're following a soap opera.

The Dodgers issued a formal statement yesterday, expressing their deep disappointment with Puig... They may like his performance, but I wouldn't characterize their feelings about him as "happy"... Dude has now been clocked massively exceeding the speed limit twice this off-season.
And, as for his personality - very few, if any classless narcisists on the scale of Puig ever maintain, let alone reach true success. Most often, these types of turds (T.O., Ocho Cinco, Dez Bryant, Jose Canseco all come to mind), become either flashes, or, malcontents to the extent nobody wants them on their team...
Puig is only 23... he still has time to correct his course. To learn to respect the game, himself and others... Personally, I hope he does because he certainly does have star-power and with his head on straight, baseball will be better off. If he doesn't, he will suffer far greater lows than being stopped for speeding... ;)

Which part is confusing to you?

The part were you back peddle and then your unjust bashing of Miggy. It appears you are either trolling and have no clue what you are saying. Not sure yet.

There's a great story about Babe Ruth. It might be apochryful, but it is representative of times past. It goes something like this:

In Ruth's time, players and sports reporters traveled between ballparks by train (in separate cars). One day, while the reporters chatted easily in their train car, the back door flew open and a buck naked Babe Ruth came flying up the aisle. Some distance behind him came an equally naked woman with an upraised knife, chasing him. They both disappeared out the front door.

One reporter looked at another seated next to him and said, "it's a good thing I didn't really see what I thought I saw, or I'd have to report it."

:D
