What idiocy is this? I don't buy it. Their coach has a long history of reloading fast. By season's end, my guess is Ohio State will rank no lower than 7 in the BCS rankings.

I wish they would do away with preseason polls. I know it is a TV thing but it sure screws things up.

On subject...me thinks you are correct. Ohio St will be comfortably in the top 10 at years end.

Preseason polls mean nothing, zilch....those who live by them, will fail by them. Ohio State is a great program, the team I love managed to have a 11-2 season with 17 true freshman starting....no reason to expect any less from OSU.

Their awful non-conference schedule didn't help their preseason ranking either.

True, but check out a few others too. If I remember, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Florida all had joke non-conference schedules. I'm too lazy to look it up.

My two teams, ASU and Notre Dame, each have four ridiculous patsies on their schedules too. Everybody does it, or almost everybody.

The preseason poll is the second most important poll of the year. You gotta start in about the top 20 in order to have a legitimate shot to finish in the top 2.

Maybe I should qualify my answer, being #1 in the preseason polls does not mean you will end up in the top 5.

true dat, but being ranked high allows you lose early and make up ground. Losing early and being ranked high is much better than being ranked low and losing that game late.

But my friend, a PAC-10 team cannot afford to lose at all....the "superior" conference will whine and pout that any PAC team, even if they end the season undefeated, is only equivalent to a middle-tier program in their conference. This allows them a convenient excuse.

I would guess that the pre season poll is the most important for many teams. Teams get there via the popularity route. This is where the early season losses get excused and the "smart" teams get "validated" ( sarcasm ) by beating up on patsies to make their pre season rating look accurate. Starting off in the Top 10 is a gift.
