EDMONTON – When it rains, it pours.

Said another way, misery loves company.

The Edmonton Oilers have had the injury bug take the biggest chomp out of the players more this year than in previous seasons. The team is still waiting for Connor McDavid, Mattias Ekholm, and Stuart Skinner to return to action from their various ailments.

On Monday night, the Oilers will go toe-to-toe with the Anaheim Ducks to conclude their road trip. After the morning skate, head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media and revealed a few things about some injured players.

Trent Frederic

In a frustrating turn of events, Frederic was absent from practice. He reagrivated his ankle injury during the Oilers last game.

Knoblauch had this to say about Frederic.

“He’s doing alright,” Knoblauch said. “Things flared up right from the first shift. An immediate return is not going to happen.”

An ankle injury is not an easy thing to recover from, and the Oilers should tread lightly. Being more cautious than the average bear would be the prudent course of action for the team given the circumstances.

Leon Draisaitl

Leon Draisaitl exited the game against the San Jose Sharks, only playing 10 minutes of that contest. He was present at the skate on monday morning. Knoblauch gave a simple update on his status.

“Leon will not be playing tonight,” Knoblauch revealed. With how good he looked in practice and how definitively Knoblauch answered the question of whether he would play against the Ducks, it’s safe to say that he will miss multiple games.
