I have seen a few pop up around the Valley recently now I hear commercials for them on the radio.. I know Lennys has a sign there for them, but I just thought it was a type of hot dog.. Now they have restraunts..

I guess I could have googled it, but I wanted to type the word Weinerschnitzel..

Food is cheap and edible. Not much more. Sorry DCR.

Eh.

You got the cheap right, but it's a hot dog. You shouldn't spend an arm and a leg for it anyway.

last time I went I got a dog and some chili cheese fries and a drink for about $4. It is a change of place fast food restaurant that I go to about twice a year.

Judges will accept that it is worthy of a spot in the fast food rotation.

yep & yep

i like the restaurant - there are a few off them just off the loop on the westside - for some reason I like the bbq bacon dog

Gee - if you want to try the other kind (or a variety of other schnitzel for that matter) - give this spot in downtown glendale a go

http://www.hausmurphys.com/

it's a fun restaurant and the food/beer is great

There used to be one in Flagstaff in the early 70s. It was an Alpine-style structure ... I think that's how all of them used to be. It was a great treat to go to the Weiner for a dog with ketchup, mustard, and kraut.

I can't do it now. I'm all about kosher dogs. Won't touch the mystery pork ever again.

They have kosher dogs and turkey dogs now.

California based company been here all my life, used to be called Der Wienerschnitzel but they renamed it because public polls found it to be offensive in a 'Hilter' kind of way. They used to compete with "Pup n' Taco" in southern Cal and soon after the name change "Pup" went out of business.

The claim to fame is the all beef Chili Cheese dog and do not try to figure out what is in that chili... But it is popular, so popular that you can actually buy the chili at the stores. Typically transplanted California can't wait to eat Weinerschnitzel chili chese dogs and In n' Out burgers when they come back to visit... eventhough In n' Out has expanded all over now...

Both of these companies are very nostalgic for Southern California, kind of like Carls' Junior used to be back when they were only in Orange County and Karcher was just Carl Karcher and not CKE and then got overthrown...

I know way too much about local fast food... :|

It was grammatically incorrect, so they dropped it. (Should be das)

Once again, Wikipedia rules all in pop culture. Here's everything you wanted to know about the restaurant (and much you didn't)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wienerschnitzel

And for good measure, here's background on some of my favorite fast food chains ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tastee_Freeze
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataburger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lottaburger
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-N-Out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fazoli%27s
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousins_Subs

Wikipedia is begging for an entry on the variety of 'Berto's chains. If no one's going to write about Honey Bear's, I just might have to.

But it was not the Grammar that got them to take it off... I was here and remember it well... It was deemed to be culturally offensive and removed.

I find it offensive that it's called wienerschnitzel in the first place. They have no clue what real Wiener Schnitzel is. Come to think of it, they have no clue what a real hot dog is also. These places are the lowest common denominator in the fast food industry. Dirty restaurants, incompetent staff, barely edible food. Real wienerschnitzel is my favorite food whenever I go to Europe. Breaded veal cutlet with some lemon squeezed on it, side of fries. It's the best. (Although in Northern Europe they put gravy on it)

Luckily, if I want a kraut dog, Papoo's Hot Dog Show (SoCal people might be familiar) is right down the street, right across from one of the original Bob's Big Boys (and it's still operating).

Wienerschnitzel served with lemon, capers, anchovies, shredded horseraddish, fried potatoes and a mushroom sauce.....

The best!

This is very true, nothing at weinerschnitzel resembles a true schnitzel.... The big "W" fast food chain has kind of a cult following though. As long as I can remember either people absolutely hate it, or love it... and many people won't admit that they go there at all... I have a really obese employee that has a lot of health problems, the weinerschnitzel is right next to my local mom & pop computer supply company, every time I go near lunch the guy is there at the fast food place getting tanked on fat but he always tells me that wasn't him.

Mind you, he is in a marked company pick up truck and sitting in the drive thru.;)

Cool. I was born in Buffalo; my parents were both born & raised there. When Ted's came out here they were ecstatic. Wish we could get one on the west side!

It is still there, but now called the Dog Haus or something like that. Same structure.
