Oklahoma Sooners running back Sam Franklin plans to enter the spring NCAA transfer portal when it officially opens on Wednesday, per On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett. Franklin, who was part of a crowded OU running back room, will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Franklin appeared in 12 games for the Sooners in 2024, his only season in Norman. He registered 132 yards on 18 carries and appeared mainly on special teams as a kick returner for Oklahoma.

Before transferring to OU, Franklin starred at the FCS level with UT Martin. The Sooners still have their top 4 leading rushers from a season ago on the roster in Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, Gavin Sawchuk, and Taylor Tatum.

The Sooners made a splash in the portal, adding Jaydn Ott from Cal. Ott has a chance to be the Oklahoma Sooners' No. 1 running back in 2025 after a productive three years.

Franklin is the third Oklahoma player to enter the spring transfer portal window, joining tight end Davon Mitchell and defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald. The spring portal is open from April 16 to 25.
