STILLWATER — Anthony Roy’s circuitous basketball journey has led him back to the state of Oklahoma.
Two seasons after he starred at Langston, and following one season playing for Doug Gottlieb at Green Bay, the 6-foot-5 guard has committed to Oklahoma State out of the transfer portal.
Roy is the third transfer portal addition to the Cowboy roster, which still has several open spots.
Two years ago, Roy led Langston to a 35-2 record and an appearance in the NAIA title game. He was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year after averaging 18.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 41.9% from 3-point range.
He joined Gottlieb at Green Bay and averaged 25.7 points over the first 11 games before an ankle injury ended his season. He had 27 points and five rebounds, going 7 of 13 from 3-point range in the season opener at Oklahoma State.
Roy entered the transfer portal March 31 and his commitment to OSU was reported Saturday by multiple online outlets.

OSU will be Roy’s sixth college in as many years. Originally from Oakland, California, Roy began his career at San Francisco, playing in eight games in the 2020-21 season.
From there, he spent a year at the junior college level with Wenatchee (Washington) Valley College, then returned to the Division I level at New Mexico State for 2022-23.
His lone season there was limited to 16 games because of legal issues of his own and within the program itself. Roy — along with Marchelus Avery, who played for OSU this past season — was one of three players suspended for involvement in an incident where one man was killed and New Mexico State player Mike Peake was shot in the leg.
According to reports, the altercation between students from New Mexico and New Mexico State resulted in the death of New Mexico student Brandon Travis. Neither Roy nor Avery were charged for their involvement.
The New Mexico State basketball program canceled a portion of its season and fired its head coach in the aftermath of the incident.
It was later reported by the Las Cruces Sun-News that Roy was on probation through 2025 as a result of a plea agreement in an Idaho court for a 2021 felony count of possessing a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver.
Roy landed at Langston the following season, and has had no reported legal issues since.
"Last year was one of the toughest years of my life," Roy told The Oklahoman in March 2024 while at Langston. "Coming here has really changed my entire life. I feel like I work harder than a lot of people, so I'm glad to see the work is starting to show. Playing under Coach (Chris) Wright has really made me a better basketball player and a better person."
