STILLWATER — The Heard sisters are together again.
Tyla Heard, the younger sister of Oklahoma State basketball star Stailee Heard, has committed to the Cowgirls out of the transfer portal following her freshman season at Oral Roberts.
Two-time state champions while together at Sapulpa High School, the Heard sisters will try to further boost the success of the Cowgirls, who recently concluded one of the most impressive seasons in program history.
As a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, OSU lost to 10th-seeded South Dakota State in the opening round but concluded the year with 25 wins, the third-most in Cowgirl history. That came after setting the program record for conference victories with 14 in Big 12 play.
Tyla Heard, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward, averaged 14.3 minutes per game off the bench, posting 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. She also had multiple games with three or more assists.
Her most impressive performance came against Haskell on Dec. 28 when she had nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists with no turnovers in 26 minutes of action.
Stailee Heard is in contention for All-America honors after a sophomore season in which she averaged 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 41.3% from 3-point range — leading the team in all three categories.
Tyla Heard is the second player to join OSU via the transfer portal, joining BYU transfer Amari Whiting, a 5-foot-10 guard who averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals as a sophomore this past season.
OSU’s only departures via the portal so far are guards Kennedy Evans and Brenna Butler. Evans appeared in nine games as a true freshman this past season, while Butler, who joined the program as a walk-on, appeared in 21 games over her two seasons as a Cowgirl.
