He played great for Grimm in Pittsburgh. Perhaps they feel he could do the same again but at 35 years of age his starting days are most likely a thing of the past.

No harm in bringing in depth at both tackle positions. Remember that Grimm had him penciled in as the starter ahead of Levi in his first season. In the end it will be a training camp decision. If he beats someone out... good on him.

I agree. It isn't as if we signed him to a huge contract or anything. Probably just the vet minimum. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if he's better than a Vallejo.

He sucked before, he will suck again. I'd rather go with an UDFA. At least there will be potential, we may find a gem.

He sucked under Green's absurd line scheme that called for the tackles to constantly reach block.

But when Grimm came in he was about average until he got hurt. He wouldn't hurt as a spot starter or backup because he knows the scheme and has experince at G and T.

My impression is that he has not been "signed" but - along with 2 other guys - is "trying out" for an off-season roster spot.

What our eyeballs tell us from when he was with us a couple of years ago was that he (a) was a huge disappointment, (b) wasn't good enough to start and (c) was overpaid.

What we don't know is (a) whether he was impeded by injury, (b) whether he's now healthy, (c) whether he's in shape, (d) whether part of the problem before was bad karma with Dennis G, (e) his comparative value as a backup OT, (f) whether he'll be better motivated under Russ G's oversight, (g) whether he has anything left in the proverbial tank and/or (h) his value as a mentor to our younger linemen (i.e. Maybe he winds up an assistant O-line coach to Russ G).

Unless Ollie is stealing reps from other guys more likely to earn a roster spot, having him in here at the very least "can't hurt."
